Ever wondered why white flowers are traditional used in Britain for funerals?

White has traditionally been associated with,

Peace and rest — white flowers can express the wish that someone has found eternal peace.

Hope and resurrection — especially in Christian funerals, white can symbolise the belief in life after death.

Respect and dignity — historically, white was considered restrained and appropriate for mourning.

Innocence — which is why white flowers have traditionally been especially associated with children and young people, although they are of course used for people of all ages.

More recently families have moved away from this tradition as funerals are now being viewed more as a celebration of life, and are now tailored to reflect the personality of their loved one.

A wreath of brightly coloured flowers for a funeral last week, all the flowers and foliage were locally grown and arranged in moss, no floral foam.

Tony’s family wanted to reflect his love of colour and gardening, what better way to do that than with a basket full of posies of British flowers. The posies were given away at the end of the wake to the surprise and delight of friends.
We also included forget me nots as a nod to the Alzheimer’s Society the charity his family had chosen to support in Tony’s memory.

Last week I was installing this fabulous silk flower display in Mayfair to help them celebrate 350 years of business.
Months of planning and weeks of preparation and I couldn’t have been happier with the results.
