THE 100 MILE BUILD: MINOR ADJUSTMENTS; MAJOR IMPACT
The past couple of sessions with Dom have been focussed on keeping small issues, that only show up when covering significant distances, don’t turn in to injuries that hold up training
Prevention always beats cure 💪🏻

I realised recently that a lot of people here know what I do, but not necessarily who I am.
So, briefly — I’m Iain.
I’m a sports massage therapist, coach, competitive athlete, and someone who’s spent a lot of time figuring out how to train around injuries instead of being defeated by them.
I compete in endurance events and fitness comps, including Hyrox and other functional fitness stuff, and over the years I’ve dealt with more niggles, setbacks and frustrating training interruptions than I can count.
But the biggest one came four years ago, when I suffered a spinal injury serious enough that doctors told me my competitive sporting days were probably over.
I understood their reasoning, but I just chose not to accept it.
Since then, I’ve worked my way back into competition and continue to train and compete regularly. Not because I’m indestructible, but because I learned how important intelligent recovery, good movement, patience and consistency really are.
I know what it feels like to miss sessions you care about.
I know the temptation to train through things you probably shouldn’t.
And I know how hard it is mentally when your body won’t do what your brain wants.
That’s why my approach isn’t just about treatment.
It’s about helping athletes stay in the game, train intelligently, and come back stronger instead of repeatedly breaking themselves.
Whether you’re chasing podiums, PBs or just trying to stay active without constantly hurting, I’m here to help.

THE 100 MILE BUILD: MAINTENANCE MATTERS
A good one this week with no issues for Dom.
This is exactly what we want.
Most of what we do is just maintenance… keeping things moving and making sure nothing builds up.
That’s what keeps you training 💪🏻

THE 100 MILE BUILD: HILLS CHANGE EVERYTHING
Dom’s ankle pain started after a hilly marathon, where his training is mostly ok flat terrain
Hills place more demand through the joints
More range
More compression
More stress
Stack that with the distance of a marathon and you’ve got the perfect conditions for ankle impingement
So he reduced his load and I created some space in the joint so he can get back to it as swiftly as possible
It’s like I said: ultra running magnifies everything
