✨ The most frustrating thing I discovered about dreadlocks was the massive misconception that my ‘hippy dippy’ hair would be cost-effective and that maintenance info would be shared openly. But nope! Coming from the beauty industry, I was completely taken aback. The worst moment was when I told my dread artist that I wanted to learn how to maintain my own and help others on their dread journey in her chair, and she basically snapped at me like, ‘How dare you think of such a thing?’ I felt so guilty... but hold up, I’ve never encountered this kind of attitude while doing nails, tanning, or waxing. So what’s the deal? Dreadlocks are supposed to be all about that natural vibe, yet it feels so secretive!

But honestly, this isn’t just a one-time experience, and I’m determined to change that! I truly believe that sharing is caring, and I’m super excited to share my hints and tips from my dread journey. DIY Dreadlock Shampoo Bar!!

Hey everyone! 🌟 Here is my recipe for a dreadlock-safe shampoo bar… I couldn’t wait to share the recipe with you! Here’s how to make your own using just 250g of melt and pour shampoo base by @thesoaperyuk, plus some awesome essential oils by @doterra! Ingredients: - 250g Melt and Pour Shampoo Base 🧼 - 5-7 drops doTERRA Tea Tree Essential Oil 🌿 Known for its powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties, tea tree oil helps maintain a healthy scalp, reduces dandruff, and can soothe irritation. 💧 - 5-7 drops doTERRA Lemon Essential Oil 🍋 This oil is fantastic for cleansing and can help remove buildup, promoting shiny and vibrant hair. It also has a refreshing scent that is super lush! ✨ Instructions: 1. Cut your soap base into cubes and melt it using a double boiler. 🔥 2. Once melted, let it cool a bit, then mix in your lemon and tea tree oils. 🥄 3. Pour the mixture into silicone molds, leaving a little space at the top. 🧊 4. Let the bars cool and harden for about 1-2 hours (or pop them in the fridge to speed things up!). ⏳ 5. Once solid, gently take your bars out of the molds. 🙌 6. Keep them in a cool, dry place until you’re ready to use! This recipe made me 2 bars! 🎉 When it’s time to wash your hair, just wet the bar and your hair, rub the bar on your scalp and hair to lather up, then rinse! 💦 🌿 A Quick Note on Essential Oils 🌿 I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts on essential oils, specifically why I choose doTERRA. Oh, it definitely is And to answer the next question, yes, they are very heavy! 😅 I also wash them, believe it or not! 😲🤭😉 I’ve always wanted dreads, but there were some hurdles to overcome. I aimed for long locks from the start, so I grew my hair for about four years to achieve the look I envisioned. The first two weeks were tough—dealing with the pain and tension bumps was no joke! 😣 After that, it took me about six months to establish a solid maintenance routine and learn how to care for and love my locks. It was definitely an uphill struggle, but totally worth it in the end! I’ve also done the hard work for you by testing out every location, potion, shampoo—you name it! I found that I can make everything pretty cheaply, which is a huge bonus! People often ask me how much it all cost, and it was around £400 for about 14 hours of work. I have around 66 dreads in total.
