Astley View - an Evermore Care Home

Last week we decided to have a go at a blindfolded “guess the food” game which brought a brilliant mix of curiosity and laughter to the lounge.
With sight not being an option, residents relied on taste, smell, and texture to figure out each mystery item, turning every bite into a little adventure.
Some guesses were spot‑on, others delightfully unexpected, but the fun was in the trying. The activity encouraged sensory awareness, confidence, and mindful eating, especially valuable for our dementia residents, who often benefit from gentle, engaging ways to reconnect with familiar flavours.

Last week we enjoyed a delightful afternoon of cheese and wine. It was the perfect opportunity to make new friends, enjoy excellent conversation and share the love of cheese.
We sampled cheese from all over the world and many residents were trying them for the first time. In the end, we all decided that Lancashire Crumbly was the firm favourite followed by the garlic and herb roule.
We look forward to sharing another afternoon like that soon.

🛍️✨ THE ASTLEY VIEW CORNER SHOP IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! ✨🛍️

We’re absolutely delighted to share the exciting news that our brand-new Corner Shop at Astley View Care Home is now open! 🏡💙

This has been a real labour of love, with lots of planning, research and, most importantly, input from our residents going into creating a shop that is useful, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. ❤️

🕑 OPEN DAILY | 2PM–4PM

Our residents, staff and families can pop in and purchase everyday essentials, including:

🍫 Sweets & chocolates
🧴 Toiletries
🧼 Everyday essentials
🎁 Little treats and gifts
…and much more!

🎀 A VERY SPECIAL OPENING 🎀

There was only one person we could think of to officially open the doors — our wonderful resident Shirley, who is our longest-serving resident at Astley View! 🥰

Shirley had the very special honour of cutting the ribbon and declaring our Corner Shop officially OPEN! ✂️🎉

It was such a lovely and meaningful moment, celebrating Shirley’s special place at the heart of our Astley View family. ❤️

📮 AND WE’VE EVEN GOT OUR OWN POSTBOX! 📮

We wanted our shop to be about more than simply buying things, so we’ve also added a postbox outside the shop!

Residents can now write their own letters and cards, pop them into our postbox, and our team will make sure they are posted for them. 💌📮

It’s a lovely way to encourage those important connections with family and friends and keep those traditional everyday routines alive. ❤️

🎶💃 TIME TO CELEBRATE! 💃🎶

And, of course, after all that excitement, it was time to celebrate!

Residents, staff and families came together with our wonderful singer Louis 🎤🎶 for an afternoon of music, singing, dancing and plenty of laughter.

What better way to celebrate our new Corner Shop than surrounded by our Astley View family, enjoying fantastic live music and making more wonderful memories together! 🥰🎶

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped bring this idea to life. From the initial planning and research to choosing what our shop should offer, every detail has been carefully considered with our residents at the heart of it.

We hope the Astley View Corner Shop becomes a much-loved part of everyday life, giving our residents choice, independence, familiar experiences and — of course — the opportunity to treat themselves! 🛍️🍫❤️

This afternoon, the residents enjoyed a lovely cinema afternoon, watching the classic film Singing in the Rain. Residents relaxed and enjoyed watching the film together, creating a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. It was a lovely afternoon filled with entertainment, laughter and enjoyment, with residents making the most of the opportunity to spend time together.

We had our weekly visit from Strawberry Fields Nursery today as part of our Little Links activity. Today we decorated pots using craft bits for the children to take home. Our residents offered a friendly helping hand and taught them techniques for them to practice.
We look forward to seeing them again next week!
