Corns / Hard Skin removal I’m Robyn, an HCPC registered podiatrist who’s passionate about helping people stay comfortable and confident on their feet. I’ve always believed that being able to move well is key to enjoying life, and that’s what inspired me to build my career around foot and ankle health. Running my own clinic means I can really focus on what matters most: putting patients first. Every appointment is about more than just treatment — it’s about listening, understanding, and giving people the care they truly need. From routine foot care to sports injuries and custom insoles, I love helping people get back to doing the things they enjoy without foot pain holding them back. I’m also committed to keeping up with the latest techniques and treatments so my patients get the very best care, whether it’s prevention or specialist treatment. At the heart of it all, my goal is simple: to help people walk, run, and live more comfortably every day.

“So… you went to university for THREE YEARS just to learn how to cut toenails?” 😂
This has genuinely got to be one of my favourite questions I’ve been asked!
There’s SO much more to podiatry than cutting toenails. 👣 From diagnosing and treating foot and skin and nail conditions to biomechanics, verrucae, fungal nails, ingrown toenails, toenail surgery, diabetic foot assessments, low-limb vascular screening... the list goes on!
And yes… toenail cutting can be part of podiatry, but there’s a little more to it than that! 😉

👣 Meet Your Podiatrist – Robyn ❤️
You’ve probably seen my face around here quite a lot… but how much do you actually know about the person behind The Foot Lab?
My journey into podiatry wasn’t exactly straightforward! I actually started out in the beauty industry before my passion for feet and foot health eventually led me to university, qualifying as a podiatrist and opening The Foot Lab in August 2025.
Being born and raised in Colne, it means so much to me to now have my own clinic here in the community, helping people feel more comfortable, confident and happy with their feet.
And because it’s just me at The Foot Lab, you’ll always see the same face, get to know me and receive that personal continuity of care.
But there’s much more to my story, including why I chose podiatry, what motivated me to open my own clinic and the person behind the business.
👉 Head over to my website and have a read of my full “About Me” story. I’d love you to get to know a little more about the person behind The Foot Lab!

A. ADMIN!!!!!! 😩
I DETEST the admin. 😂
I think a lot of people are completely unaware of just how much paperwork and behind-the-scenes work goes into every single treatment.
Every patient needs detailed clinical notes for every appointment, and I mean DETAILED!
It’s not simply “cut nails, remove hard skin, see you next time.”
I have to document what I’ve assessed, what treatment I’ve carried out, how long the appointment took, exactly what I’ve used, the products applied, the equipment and instruments used, any advice given, any changes in the patient’s condition, and the treatment plan going forward.
Then there’s consent, medical history, referrals, correspondence, sterilisation records, stock, ordering, accounts, invoices, GDPR, policies, risk assessments, CPD, HCPC requirements… and the list goes on! 🤯
And that's just the clinical admin...
Then there’s the business side — answering messages, emails, phone calls, managing bookings, social media, advertising, ordering stock, cleaning, laundry, stock checks… basically everything that keeps the clinic running.
When you’re a one-woman business, there isn't an admin team hiding in the back doing all this for you.
If I’m not treating feet, I’m usually doing something to keep the clinic running!
It’s definitely one of the less glamorous parts of being a podiatrist and business owner, but it’s SO important. Good record keeping isn’t just paperwork for paperwork’s sake — it’s an essential part of providing safe, professional and accountable patient care.
So yes… I love my job.
But ADMIN? Absolutely not. 😂😂

VERRUCA NEEDLING
If you've been battling a stubborn verruca for months—or even years—there's another treatment option that many people don't realise is available.
Verruca needling is a specialist podiatry procedure that isn't widely offered, as only a limited number of podiatrists are trained to carry it out.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit of an evidence-based science nerd, so before offering this treatment, I wanted to be absolutely confident it was backed by high-quality clinical research. In fact, I dedicated part of my university dissertation to researching verruca treatments, so this is an area I'm genuinely passionate about.
Unlike treatments that simply aim to destroy the verruca, needling works by stimulating 'your body's own immune system' to recognise and fight the virus responsible. This makes it an excellent option for many stubborn, persistent verrucas that haven't responded to other treatments.
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, making it a comfortable treatment, and I'll always carry out a full assessment beforehand to make sure it's the right option for you.
If over-the-counter treatments, acids or freezing haven't worked, it may be time to consider a different approach.
📩 If you'd like to know whether verruca needling is suitable for you, get in touch or book your consultation today via our website:

Choosing the right shoes for your feet...
The right shoes should work with your feet, not against them. A good fit isn't just about getting the correct shoe size — the length, width, shape and depth of the shoe all matter.
👣 Give your toes some room.
Your longest toe shouldn't be touching the front of your shoe.
Aim for around 1–1.5cm of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. This gives your toes room to move and allows for the natural movement of your foot when walking.
A simple guide? Around the width of your thumb.
👣 Check the width
Your shoe should comfortably accommodate the widest part of your foot, without squeezing your toes together or pressing against the sides.
Remember, your feet spread and change shape when you're standing, so always check the fit while standing rather than sitting down.
👣 Don't forget the depth.
It's not just the length and width that matter.
There should also be enough room above your toes so they aren't rubbing against the top of the shoe. This is particularly important if you have prominent toes, bunions, thickened nails or areas of pressure.
What makes a good shoe?
👣 Look for a supportive sole
The middle section of the sole shouldn't bend excessively underneath your arch. A shoe that's too floppy through the middle can make your feet work harder than they need to.
Some flexibility at the front of the shoe is useful, particularly around the toes. A gently curved or rocker-style sole can also help the foot roll forwards during walking.
👣Choose shoes you can adjust
Laces, straps or Velcro fastenings allow you to alter the fit across the top of your foot.
This helps keep the shoe securely in place and means you can adjust it if your feet change in size during the day.
👣 Look for cushioning
Think about what you'll be using the shoes for.
If you're going to be walking or standing for long periods, a sole with good cushioning and shock absorption can help reduce the amount of impact travelling through your feet.
👣 Can the insole be removed?
A removable footbed can be a really useful feature.
It gives you the option of replacing the original insole with your own orthotic or prescribed footbed, if needed, without making the shoe too tight.
👣 Match your shoes to what you're doing
There isn't one perfect shoe for every situation. The footwear you choose should be suitable for the activity, workplace and environment you're in.
Working somewhere with a risk of heavy objects?
Choose protective safety footwear with a suitable toe cap.
Working somewhere slippery?
Look for slip-resistant soles designed for the environment you're working in.
Could you stand on nails or other sharp objects?
You may need footwear with puncture-resistant soles.
Regularly climbing ladders?
Make sure your footwear fits securely and is unlikely to slip off your feet.
On your feet all day?
Prioritise comfort, cushioning and a supportive fit. As a general guide, avoid regularly wearing heels higher than around 2cm if you're going to be standing or walking for prolonged periods.
👣Your feet aren't one-size-fits-all
Everyone's feet are different, and what works brilliantly for one person might not work for someone else.
If you're struggling to find comfortable footwear, experiencing rubbing or pressure, or simply aren't sure what type of shoe would suit your feet, a podiatry assessment can help you work out what your feet actually need.
The right shoes can make a huge difference to how your feet feel.

A little reminder about cancellations & missed appointments
I’m very lucky that cancellations and no-shows aren’t something I usually have an issue with, and I really do appreciate how respectful my patients are of my time.
However, recently I’ve had a few more late cancellations and missed appointments than usual, so I just wanted to gently remind everyone of my cancellation policy.
When you book an appointment, that time is reserved specifically for you. As I’m a one-person clinic, if an appointment is cancelled at very short notice, it can be really difficult to offer that slot to someone else who may be waiting for an appointment.
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment.
➡️ Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments/no-shows, will be charged at the full appointment fee.
Of course, I completely understand that genuine emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can happen; life happens! This isn’t something I enjoy having to enforce, but unfortunately I do need to have a policy in place to protect my time and my small business.
A quick text, call or message as soon as you know you can’t make it really does make all the difference and gives me the best chance of offering the appointment to someone else.
Thank you, as always, for your understanding and for respecting my time — I really do appreciate it.
