Collagen skincare… does it actually work? 👀
Collagen is one of the proteins that gives our skin its structure, firmness and strength — so it’s no surprise that it’s become such a huge skincare buzzword.
But here’s the catch…
Putting collagen onto the surface of your skin doesn’t mean it’s going to travel deep into your skin and simply replace the collagen you’re losing.
That doesn’t mean collagen skincare is bad. It can still be a lovely moisturising ingredient and leave your skin feeling softer, smoother and more hydrated.
But if you’re buying a product because you think the collagen in it is going to rebuild your skin’s collagen, I’d be a little sceptical.
For supporting your skin’s own collagen, I’d be looking at ingredients with stronger evidence behind them — and SPF is a big one for protecting the collagen you already have. ☀️
My verdict: collagen skincare? Nice. Miracle? No.
What you see vs what I see. 🤍
From a normal distance, you might look at my skin and think it looks pretty perfect.
But zoom in…
You’ll see the acne scars from the years I spent struggling with acne.
You’ll see pigmentation.
You’ll see pores.
You’ll see fine lines.
You’ll see facial hair.
You’ll see sebaceous filaments.
And honestly? I see all of it too.
My skin isn’t perfect.
But it tells a story.
A story of years of acne, trying everything to fix it, being far too harsh on my skin and eventually learning to understand it rather than constantly fight against it.
So yes, from across the room my skin might look “perfect”.
But real skin isn’t meant to be perfect when you zoom in.
It’s textured. It’s uneven. It changes. It carries the evidence of everything it’s been through.
And that’s exactly what makes it real. 🤍
Stop zooming in. Start seeing the whole person.
Everyone’s talking about niacinamide… but do you actually need it? 👀
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and it’s one of those ingredients I genuinely think deserves the hype.
It can help support your skin barrier, regulate excess oil, calm inflammation and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone.
But here’s the bit I want you to remember:
More skincare ≠ better skin.
If your moisturiser, serum or other products already contain niacinamide, you might not need to add another dedicated niacinamide serum.
And if you have sensitive skin, higher concentrations can sometimes be irritating.
So my verdict?
Niacinamide = valuable ✅
A separate niacinamide serum = depends on YOUR skin.
Stop buying ingredients just because TikTok tells you they’re essential. Work out what your skin actually needs. 🤍
You’ve seen them EVERYWHERE… but are they actually worth your money? 👀
Welcome to Viral or Valuable? — where I put the skincare products taking over TikTok and Instagram to the test.
Because just because something has millions of views doesn’t mean your skin needs it.
Some I genuinely love.
Some I think are nice but unnecessary.
And some… I just don’t understand the hype 😂
I’m rating them out of ⭐️5 based on what they actually bring to your routine, not how viral they are.
Now I want to know — what skincare product are YOU seeing everywhere right now?
Drop it in the comments and I might rate it in the next episode 👇
Why does pigmentation keep appearing? 👀
If you’re struggling with pigmentation, it’s worth looking beyond just “what product will get rid of it?”
Pigmentation can be triggered by a number of things, including:
☀️ UV exposure — one of the biggest contributors
🔥 Inflammation — including acne and breakouts
🧬 Hormonal changes — such as melasma
🤏 Skin trauma and irritation — including picking and over-exfoliating
And this is why treating pigmentation isn’t always as simple as adding another brightening serum.
First, we need to understand what’s causing it.
Because if you keep triggering the pigmentation, you can spend a fortune trying to fade it while simultaneously making it worse.
So before you buy another product promising “perfect, even skin”…
Look at what your skin actually needs. 🤍
Save this if pigmentation is something you’re trying to understand, and follow for more straightforward skincare advice without the overwhelm.
💧 Can drinking more water actually improve your skin?
Yes… but probably not in the way TikTok would have you believe 👀
Drinking enough water helps keep your body hydrated, and if you’re dehydrated, your skin can look drier, duller and less plump.
But there’s no magic amount of water that will suddenly clear your acne, erase pigmentation or give you “glass skin” overnight.
Think of water as one piece of the skin-health puzzle, alongside SPF, a good skincare routine, nutrition, sleep and looking after your skin barrier.
So drink your water 💦 — just don’t expect it to do the job of your entire skincare routine!

I KNOW. YOU WANT TO SQUEEZE IT. 😂
But that satisfying little squeeze can turn a spot that might have healed relatively quickly into inflammation, irritation, pigmentation and potentially scarring.
If you pick your spots, you’re not “bad” at skincare — it’s incredibly tempting, especially when you can see something you want gone.
But next time you catch yourself reaching for the mirror…
step away. Leave your skin to do its thing. 🤍
Save this for the next time you feel the urge to pick. 🫶
A few unpopular skincare opinions from your skin specialist… 👀
There are SO many products marketed as essentials that promise to transform your skin, but honestly, I don’t think you need to spend your money on everything the skincare industry tells you to.
I’d much rather you have a simple, targeted routine that you actually stick to than a bathroom full of products that aren’t really doing anything for you.
And remember — this isn’t me saying these products are “bad”. It’s simply where I personally wouldn’t choose to spend my money. 🤍
What would you add to the list? 👀
What could 10 years without SPF do to your skin? 👀
I asked AI to show me what my skin could look like at 40 if I stopped wearing SPF tomorrow — and the result was pretty shocking.
Before anyone panics: this isn’t a prediction. AI can’t tell me exactly how my skin will age.
But it does give us a visual reminder of something we often underestimate: UV damage is cumulative.
We’re not just talking about wrinkles. UV exposure contributes to pigmentation, uneven skin tone, collagen and elastin breakdown, changes in texture and premature skin ageing.
And the frustrating part? A lot of that damage happens long before we can see it.
So if you’re investing in expensive serums, treatments and anti-ageing skincare, please don’t overlook the simplest one:
☀️ SPF. Every. Single. Day.
Your future skin doesn’t need a 10-step routine.
It needs protection. 🤍
