Still blaming the glue for poor retention? 👀
After years of working as a lash artist, international educator, mentor and judge, one thing has become very clear to me:
Great retention is never about ONE thing.
It’s not simply about buying the newest or “best” adhesive.
It’s understanding the science behind the bond — natural lash preparation, adhesive behaviour, humidity and temperature, moisture, pH, pickup, attachment, placement, curing and aftercare.

One still image cannot show the entire procedure, but several visible details deserve discussion. If that black pool is lash adhesive, it is positioned directly over the eyelid and extremely close to the client’s eye. Tape can move, adhesive can spread, and fumes are concentrated beside a very sensitive area.
Loose extensions or removed lashes should never be left across the client’s face, where they may become contaminated or enter the eye. The working area should remain clean, controlled and free from unnecessary clutter.
Adhesive belongs on a stable, designated surface away from the client’s eye. Used fibres should be discarded immediately, and every tool movement should prioritise safety.
A technique going viral does not automatically make it professional or safe. What else can you spot? 👀
Before blaming the glue, check what it is bonding to. 👀
Natural lashes are not identical. Sebum, product residue, cuticle condition and the pH of your preparation products can all influence how the adhesive behaves and cures.
An acidic surface may slow curing, while overly alkaline preparation may accelerate it and unnecessarily disturb the cuticle. And remember: pH 7 is chemically neutral—it is not automatically the ideal target for every natural lash.
Great retention comes from knowledge, correct preparation, controlled conditions and precise attachment. Even the “best” glue cannot compensate for missing science.
You can buy a million “best lash glues”—but without understanding natural lash science, preparation and correct attachment, retention will still fail. Training comes before products. 🎓

I keep seeing adverts saying “this glue gives the BEST retention” and every time I think… if only it was that simple 😂
A good adhesive absolutely matters, but retention is never just about the bottle.
Prep, natural lash condition, porosity, pH, humidity, temperature, adhesive amount, attachment, curing, aftercare… they all play a part.
So before we blame the glue — or expect one magic bottle to fix everything — we need to look at the full picture.

Too close or too far—both attachments can create problems. 👀
Placed against the skin, an extension may cause discomfort and irritation. Placed too far away, it can twist, catch and lose direction, affecting both comfort and retention.
Professional lash work is not only about what looks beautiful from the front. The base, distance and attachment must be checked carefully.
