If I had to start dentistry again in 2026, I’d do a lot of things differently.

Not because there’s one perfect path.
But because, with experience, you start to realise that who you learn from, what you choose to learn, and the standards you set for yourself early on can shape the career you build later.

You don’t need to know everything from day one.
But you do need to keep learning, stay curious and be intentional about where you’re heading.

Start early. Choose wisely. Keep learning.

Know a dentist who needs this reminder?
Send it their way.

Euro Perio 11- what great friends, memories and lessons we’ve made! It’s been superb and Vienna has been a blast!

It’s been over a week since the Private Dentistry Awards 2024, and I’m still reflecting on what an unforgettable moment it was for Black Swan Dental Spa.

Winning:
🏆 Digital Practice of the Year
🏆 Practice of the Year – South of England
🌟 And the ultimate honour: UK Practice of the Year 2024
..was nothing short of extraordinary. These awards are more than trophies—they’re a reflection of the passion, dedication, and innovation that define our team and the care we provide.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved, but I’m even more excited about the future. I have big plans to push Black Swan Dental Spa and the private dentistry sector further than ever before, setting new standards for excellence in patient care, technology, and innovation.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—our amazing team, our wonderful patients, and everyone who supports what we do. Here’s to what comes next! 🚀✨

Wow, what an incredible night! I’m absolutely humbled and honored to share that we have won three prestigious awards at the Private Dentistry Awards – Digital Practice, Practice of the Year for the South West of England, and the biggest award of the night, the Overall Practice of the Year UK-wide.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our incredible team, who continue to push boundaries, work tirelessly, and provide the best care possible to our patients. Your dedication and passion drive the success of Black Swan Dental Spa, and I’m beyond grateful for each and every one of you.

A heartfelt thank you to our patients, who trust us with their care and have made this journey so rewarding. Winning these awards is a reflection of the relationships we’ve built, the trust you place in us, and your ongoing support.

BU****IT!!!

Let’s do a reality check on a few things and get it out there!!

-I’m not a good enough dentist for private practice and the patients won’t like me!

-My work will never be as good as those I see posted on social media by others as they’re perfect…believe me…they have failures too you just don’t see it!

-I feel a failure as a dentist as I don’t feel confident enough and I don’t enjoy dentistry!

-My diary has so many gaps in it and there’s nothing I can do about it, I’m stuck!

If any of the above relates to you then realise that every single one of you has the opportunity to reverse this and become exactly what you hoped you’d be in dentistry but only you can take the first step! Consider our 2 day course to Level Up your dentistry and our pathway blog below:

Your step-by-step guide to ‘making it’ in private dentistry - Private Dental Mentor Are you an NHS dentist dreaming of transitioning to private dentistry? Here’s your essential guide to making it happen with Private Dental Mentor.

Let’s not kid ourselves…we can all see Dentistry is changing!

We as a profession are at a cross roads right now and the public are analysing us more than ever! Like it or not the private sector has become the new route for all those that can afford it but due to so many experiencing private dentistry for the first time we can either make or break that relationship!

With a positive experience they will understand the value of what you can offer. With a bad experience we would’ve damaged the public faith in the profession even more. It’s imperative that we as a profession show the public what we can offer without the constraints of the current nhs so they can see the actual true value of dentistry.

As chair of the BDA Western Counties and founder of the Young Dentist Group South West 8 years ago I’ve been mentoring young associates into private practice for many years and founded Private Dental Mentor (PDM) last year for this exact purpose. This is about more than just a course for me but about investing in the future generations to help elevate UK Dentistry to a higher level over the next few years and show the public just how good private dentistry can be if done well.

Our 2 Day Level Up for Private Practice course is a superb 2 day weekend programme to give associates and new private practice entry dentists a huge boost with all the basic skills we need them to know before they start at our practices and is very reasonably priced too. Why spend a huge amount of time in your busy schedule to do this yourself when you can be guaranteed that they will get all the information you need them to with us!

Courses are coming to Birmingham, Bristol and London and are taught by myself (Doctor A) and Laura Horton.

Here’s what they will learn:

Day 1:
* Levelled up new Patient Examinations
* Advanced customer Service Skills
* Case presentation skills to wow your patients
* Advanced pain management
* Confidence-building techniques
Day 2:
* Genuinely pain-Free dentistry
* Case planning and restorability assessments
* Financial Management and Fee Setting
* Dental Bleaching expertise

Please visit the website and urge them to sign up or sign them up on your behalf. If you’d like to attend the course with them after you’ve booked them in then we are allowing Practice Principals to also attend for free with their associate too, message us on [email protected] and let us know once booked. If you have any questions then please do let me know as I’d be more than happy to help.
