Today I put my mam (a fellow hairdresser) in the student seat for a little hands-on training 🙌🥰 We actually did our first weave training together around 10 years go! And since then I’ve created a successful business largely around them.

4 things I’m looking for as an educator in my extension applications 👇🏼

Natural hair density & choosing the right method
This actually starts before I’ve fitted a single extension. During consultation I’m assessing the client’s natural hair - the density, condition and areas that may need more consideration. This helps me decide which extension method, weight and amount of hair is going to be most suitable for that individual client. There’s never a one-size-fits-all approach.

Bead work
Clean, neat bead work is so important to me. I’m looking for consistent sections, the correct amount of natural hair within each bead and making sure there’s no unnecessary tension. The finished result is important, but what’s going on underneath matters just as much.

Placement
Placement can completely change an extension fitting. I’m thinking about where the client naturally wears their hair, how much coverage they have, where the extensions need to sit and how everything will blend and move once finished. Good placement should work with the client’s natural hair, not just follow the same pattern on everyone!

The cut & finished blend ✂️
The fitting doesn’t finish when the last extension goes in. The cut is such an important part of creating a natural result. I’m looking at the overall shape, adding face framing and layering where needed so the extensions blend seamlessly into the client’s natural hair.

I want the hair to have movement and shape and look like it could genuinely be their own, rather than that heavy, one-length “sheet” of extension hair.
