Christmas Wishing Tree Appeal

Every year we launch a Christmas Wishing Tree Appeal to make Christmas extra special for children and young people in care. We also include children and young people living in the community who are experiencing significant hardship due to a range of reasons.

Last year our kind strangers and lots of very generous businesses took on the Christmas Wishes of children and young people – supporting 801 youngsters in kinship care and 153 youngsters in the community. We would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE for you to step in and help us again.

The names of children and young people on our Christmas Wishing Trees are children who have been to hell and back and have found the loss of their mum and dad difficult to deal with.

On our Wishing Trees are the names of children who are terminally ill and/or have life limiting illnesses, children who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling in the past 18 months and children who have specific disabilities who would benefit from additional support.

We also have children on our Wishing Trees who have had to cope with a lot. Children who have had to start all over again, including moving to a new home, a new school and having to make new friends through no fault of their own.

This year we have included on Christmas Wishing Trees children and young people living in the community who we have met throughout the year.

These youngsters include children living in situations of severe poverty, children who are homeless and living in temporary accommodation, children who have fled situations of domestic violence, children who have a parent in prison and young carers who look after mums and dads and who often put their own needs to one side.

Our Christmas Wishing Tree will be in our Kindness of Strangers shop at 2 Castle Street and Kinship Care NI’s Office at 67 Carlisle Road.

Each Wish on the tree includes the name and age of a child and a gift they would like this Christmas. The wishes of children will not cost a whole lot of money but they will make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children who have been through so much already.

So please do consider supporting a child on our Christmas Wishing Tree this Christmas and if you know of a child in the community who would benefit from having their name added then let us know. We aren’t going to be able to help everyone but we are going to give it a real good try.

So Drop In, Pick A Wish and Make A Child Smile!
