✨ A Little Salon PSA – Why Hair Prep is SO Important ✨

We had an interesting reaction during a recent foil service (see pic 👇) and it’s the perfect example of why prepping your hair properly before your appointment really matters 💡

In some sections, the hair lifted very differently — appearing overly light, uneven, and with an unusual texture. This kind of reaction is often caused by something sitting on the hair before lightening, such as product, perfume, or mineral buildup.

💭 What can cause this?
• Perfume or body spray on the hair
• Dry shampoo or root sprays
• Oils, serums, or leave-in products
• Heavy product buildup
• Metals/minerals from hard water

These can interfere with the bleach, causing uneven lift, texture changes, or even faster processing in certain areas causing a lot of heat quickly and damage ⚠️

✔️ How to prep your hair for foils:
• Come with clean, dry hair (washed the day before is ideal)
• Avoid perfume or body spray near your hair!!!!!!
• Skip dry shampoo & styling products
• Be honest about any previous colour or treatments
• Use a clarifying shampoo if you have product or hard water buildup
