β Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) β when your hands, wrists and elbows start asking for a break.
RSI is an umbrella term for overuse conditions that develop when small, repeated movements place ongoing stress on muscles, tendons and joints. Common culprits include typing, mouse use, gaming, crafting, gardening and even scrolling (yes, your thumb is in on it too). π±
It often creeps in gradually - a bit of stiffness here, a dull ache there, or that βwhy does my wrist feel like it has opinions today?β sensation.
The key issue is repetition without enough recovery time. Small loads, repeated thousands of times can quietly irritate tissues over time.
So where does management come in?
πͺ Restoring balance between activity and recovery
ποΈ Improving hand, wrist and forearm mobility
π§ Checking posture and shoulder position (your hands do not work in isolation)
π Varying tasks and grip positions throughout the day
π Building strength and endurance in the supporting muscles
And yes, we are here to give you a helping handβ¦ quite literally. π Whether it is wrists that are overworked or elbows that feel like they have done too many βjust one more emailβ sessions, the goal is to help the system settle and move more comfortably.
Our chiropractors assess how the joints, muscles and nerves are functioning together, especially when repetitive strain starts to interfere with daily work or activities.

We've been a little quiet over the last few months when it comes to taking part in running events, but don't worry we have all still been keeping up the miles behind the scenes! πββοΈπββοΈ
Last year, Kate and Helen completed the Bournemouth Half Marathon, and earlier this year Liam and Helen took on the Bath Half Marathon, whilst Kate took part in the Big Mud Trail. It's great to see members of the team setting themselves new challenges and staying active.
Now, it's time to hand over the baton to JP, who is currently training for the Bournemouth Half Marathon this October!
While Kate, Liam and Helen enjoy a well-earned break from race day nerves, JP will be taking on the next challenge and we will be cheering him on every step of the way. The Bournemouth Half Marathon is a fantastic local event and always incredibly well organised, so we're delighted to have one of our team taking part once again.
Good luck with the training, JP, we're all behind you and can't wait to see you on the start line in October! πͺ
Keep an eye on our page for updates on JP's progress, and if you'd like to find out more about this brilliant local event, take a look at the link below.
12 weeks to go!

π§ βYour head is heavier than you thinkβ¦β
The average human head weighs around 4β5 kg. That is roughly the weight of a light to mid-range bowling ball. π³
Now, when your head sits directly over your shoulders, your neck muscles share the load efficiently. But as the head shifts forward - often during screen use, reading or driving - the forces change dramatically.
For every 2.5 cm the head moves forward from a neutral position, the effective load on the neck can roughly double.
So that 4β5 kg head? It can start feeling like 8 kgβ¦ 12 kgβ¦ even more, depending on posture. π¬
No wonder the neck and upper back complain after a long day on screens.
Over time, this increased load can contribute to muscle fatigue, stiffness and altered movement patterns through the neck, shoulders and upper back.
The good news is that posture is not fixed. It is trainable.
Simple changes can help:
π§ Bring screens closer to eye level
π» Take regular movement breaks
π Reset posture throughout the day (not just once)
π€ Reduce long periods of sustained forward head position
πͺ Strengthen neck and upper back muscles
Chiropractic care can also help assess how the spine, joints and muscles are functioning together, particularly when posture habits start to stick.
Small changes in head position can create big changes in load. Your neck tends to notice before you do.

Nearly 300 years later, that advice still holds up remarkably well. π
Most people do not wait until their car engine seizes before getting it checked. Yet many of us ignore stiffness, poor posture, reduced movement or recurring tension until the body starts protesting properly.
Prevention in healthcare is not about chasing perfection or never experiencing pain. It is about building habits that help the body cope better with daily life.
That might mean:
π§ Moving more during long workdays
π Staying active and maintaining strength
π§ Recovering well after exercise
π€ Prioritising sleep and posture
𦴠Addressing small mobility issues before they become larger problems
For many people, regular chiropractic care is part of maintaining movement and spinal health over time - not simply waiting until something hurts. Much like servicing a car before the warning lights appear, proactive care may help support better mobility, posture and function in the long run.
Interestingly, Franklin originally wrote this phrase about fire prevention in Philadelphia, not healthcare. And he didnβt just talk about it - he acted on it. He helped establish one of the first volunteer fire brigades, promoted chimney cleaning, safer building practices, organised bucket brigades and even supported early fire insurance systems.
In other words, he spent a lot of time trying to stop sparks from becoming full-blown disasters - which makes the idea of βinFLAMMationβ prevention feel even more on point. π₯
Because whether itβs chimneys, cities or spines, it is usually easier to deal with small issues early than wait for everything to catch fire.
