Golden dose
Sugar cravings (and carb cravings) use to benefit us when carbs and food in general was harder to come by. This was a long time ago! The hormonal signaling that causes cravings use to be really beneficial because it motivated us to seek out food that our body’s needed. Now, food and sugar is so readily available that it is relatively easy for this signaling to go haywire.
I have many patients who come to me feeling defeated and guilty about their cravings and they beat themselves up over it. But it is a normal bodily function to feel hunger and cravings! It’s not a weakness! It just doesn’t serve us well in this day and age. That’s why traditional dieting doesn’t work for most folks and why many people need more help via medications or surgery to lose weight successfully.
And remember, don’t beat yourself over that cookie. Everything in moderation, one cookie every once in a while is not going to set you back ❤️
So, do you crave sugar??
1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lives, making breast cancer the most common cancer for women.
Excess weight increases that risk but bariatric surgery has been shown to be associated with dramatically lower risk 👍
Screening is key no matter what. Be sure to get those mammograms done 💪
Here’s why bariatric surgery shouldn’t be thought of as a last resort:
1️⃣ Bariatric surgery is best when utilized for prevention. When it comes to improving or reversing diseases related to weight, earlier is better (for instance, surgery is more likely to “reverse” or “cure” diabetes when done within a few years of diagnosis rather than many years after diagnosis). All that said, surgery to prevent disease altogether is best 👍
2️⃣ Bariatric surgery is the best tool for weight loss. You are most likely to lose the most weight and keep it off with surgery. Surgery can also be used in combination with medications for even further weight loss.
3️⃣ Bariatric surgery is low risk. Yes, surgery always comes with risks but bariatric surgery is as safe as a knee replacement or gallbladder removal. The benefits far outweigh the risks for many people.
