What is Myofascial Release.
The John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® is a safe and extremely effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle and sustained pressure into restrictions to alleviate pain and restore flexibility and function.

Why does Myofascial Release use sustained pressure rather than force? 🌿
With the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach®, the aim isn’t to force the body to change.
Gentle, sustained pressure is applied to areas of fascial restriction and held for a period of time, allowing the tissues time to respond.
Rather than quickly moving from one area to another, MFR slows things down. I listen with my hands, follow what I feel within the tissue and allow the treatment to progress according to how your body responds.
This is one of the reasons an MFR session can feel quite different from a traditional massage.
More pressure doesn’t necessarily mean better treatment.
Sometimes, giving the body time rather than force is the more appropriate approach.
🌿 Gentle. Sustained. Individual to you.

What is a fascial restriction? 🌿
Fascia is the connective tissue network that surrounds and supports structures throughout your body.
When an area of fascia becomes less mobile or restricted, it can influence the way tissues move and how tension is experienced. Because fascia is continuous throughout the body, the area where you feel tightness or discomfort may not always be the only area involved.
This is why the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® considers the body as a whole.
During MFR, I use gentle, sustained pressure and allow time for the tissues to respond rather than forcing them.
Every body is different, so each treatment is guided by what I feel within the tissue and how your body responds during the session.
🌿 It’s about listening to the body, not forcing it.

Your first Myofascial Release session — what can you expect? 🌿
Coming for your first MFR session can feel a little unfamiliar, especially if you’ve never experienced this type of treatment before.
We’ll begin by talking about your health history, what you’ve been experiencing and what you’d like to get from your sessions.
I’ll then look at your body as a whole, considering areas of tension and fascial restriction rather than focusing only on where you feel discomfort.
Treatment uses gentle, sustained pressure without forcing the tissues. I allow time for your body to respond, and your session is always tailored to you.
My aim is to provide a calm, supportive environment where you can feel comfortable throughout the process.
Every body is different. Every session is individual.

What does Myofascial Release actually feel like? 🌿
If you’ve never experienced Myofascial Release before, you might expect a deep or forceful treatment. The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® uses gentle, sustained pressure rather than forcing the tissues.
During a session, you may notice areas beginning to soften, a sense of warmth, stretching or changes in tension as we work with areas of fascial restriction. Everyone experiences MFR differently, which is why each treatment is tailored to you and how your body responds.
My approach is whole-body focused — we don’t necessarily work only where you feel discomfort, because restrictions elsewhere in the body may also be relevant.
I have completed 400+ hours of advanced training in the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® and achieved Expert Level status.
