* CARING FOR YOUR NAILS AT HOME **
I am aware that a lot of you are self isolating or minimising social contact at the moment in line with government regulations so I thought I would give you a little update on caring for your nails and hands at home to help keep your talons in good condition until your next appointment.
Handwashing is crucial to help break the chain of infection and stop the spread of coronavirus. Your soap does not have to be extremely harsh and medicated, any hand soap with warm water will do as long as you wash your hands for about 20 seconds ensuring you thoroughly wash your nails and dry them afterwards. Likewise hand sanitizer is not a soap substitute and should only be used as a last resort or when out and about with no access to soap and water.
If you have Shellac or Enhancements on at present, please do not bite or pick them off 😱😱😱! If you can get out, get yourself some acetone and place it in a small ceramic bowl, place the bowl in a larger bowl which contains boiling water. This will help speed up the melting process. Cut the length of your nail down first to the desired length using nails scissors or clippers to speed up the process. About half way through bring your nails out and gently push away the melted product from the nail starting from the base up to the length and buff VERY LIGHTLY over the surface. Repeat as necessary until all the product is removed. If your nails look very white and dry this is normal and is due to the acetone drying out the skin slightly.
My best advice would be to take your nails short. Shorter nails are much easier to maintain at home and are less likely to break down at the nail bed. We can always add length and start again but it is much better to try to prevent breakage than treat it. Shorter nails are also much easier to keep clean which is imperative at the moment.
Paint your nails at home with whatever products you like if that is what you want to do but I also urge you to remove this properly and not to pick as picking at anything on your nail bed damages the top layers and causes thinning.
The most important part is keeping good nail and hand health as constant handwashing will inevitable dry out your skin and nails giving all viruses and bacteria another Avenue into your body. Whilst I would not recommend using moisturiser after every hand wash I would urge you to use a thick moisturiser in the evening before bed. Start at your wrist and rub it in gentle circles, working your way up your hands and to your fingers, pulling very gently on each finger at the knuckle as you go to increase blood circulation. Finish by dousing your nails in a thick cuticle oil (if you dont have any you can use a coconut oil or almond oil or even an olive oil) as this penetrates into the thickest parts of your cuticle helping to keep the skin soft and healthy.
Most importantly of all, I hope you all keep safe and in good health throughout this pandemic. If you are in need of anything, cannot get out and have noone to help you get your essentials, please do not hesitate to contact me to help you out.
I look forward to seeing you all again (hopefully in the very near future 🤞), but until then take good care

In light of the coronavirus pandemic I am taking extra precautions to ensure all tools and equipment used are thoroughly sanitized after each use as always and washing my hands much more frequently before entering and after leaving peoples homes. Can I please ask that you ensure you wash your hands thoroughly before any appointments and if you have any symptoms of a cough or fever that you rearrange your appointment to a later date. As most of you are aware I also have a young child and in the event of school closures I will be forced to cancel and rebook any appointments through this time in order to care for my baby. I hope you all understand and will be in touch should this be the case. Take care of yourselves and those around you 💕
