I took the top picture when I first got my Observ in 2015. A few months ago I was checking something with my skin and idly thought I’d compare my earliest pictures to see what had changed. Clearly I am older as my face shape is changing (and being a mum now means no time to get my lashes done), but the quality and texture of my skin has hardly changed at all. There are no filters on these pictures, and I’m wearing no makeup. During the past ten years - 40 to 50 - I’ve had a child which definitely has impacted my sleep, exercise and stress levels. I also grew up in Cape Town and most definitely didn’t apply sunscreen daily until I was 20 and knew better. I’ve enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle for most of my life, taking up skiing and rock climbing in my 30’s. But for the past 15 years I have been using products that support and maintain my skin barrier, which has reduced the background inflammation that contributes to free radical cascades that play a key role in accelerated aging. Of course, this is alongside using active ingredients that the skin cells need to function optimally. I think it’s the combination of these two factors that has made a massive impact. I embrace growing older more each year, but am acutely aware that our bodies don’t look after themselves - the same goes for our skin. Give your skin the right environment and the right nutrition, and it will thrive.
