SELF-CARE SUNDAY | Can Stress Affect Your Hair and Scalp?
We often think of stress as something we feel mentally, but it can show up physically too, including in our hair and scalp.
Periods of significant or prolonged stress can affect the normal hair growth cycle and, for some people, lead to increased shedding a few months later. Stress can also coincide with scalp concerns such as itching, sensitivity or flare-ups of existing conditions.
That doesn’t mean every bad hair day is caused by stress.
But if life has been particularly busy, it’s worth remembering that looking after your hair isn’t only about what you put on it.
Sleep, nutrition, taking time to switch off and finding ways to manage everyday stress all form part of looking after yourself.
And sometimes, an hour in the chair with nowhere else to be isn’t a bad place to start.
Healthy hair and scalp care can be part of a much bigger picture of looking after yourself.

SELF-CARE SUNDAY | Your Beard Needs Skincare Too
Looking after your beard isn’t just about keeping the hair neat.
Underneath it is skin that still needs cleansing, hydration and a little attention.
Without the right care, sweat, oil, dead skin and styling products can build up beneath your beard, leaving the skin feeling dry, itchy or uncomfortable.
Keep it simple. Cleanse your beard and the skin underneath it regularly, rinse thoroughly and make sure you’re not forgetting the skin when you moisturise. A good beard oil can also help soften the hair while keeping the skin beneath it feeling conditioned.
And when trimming? Sharp tools, good preparation and proper aftercare can make all the difference, particularly if your skin is prone to irritation.
A great beard starts with looking after what’s underneath it.

Had a perm with Lynne at The Players Lounge a few months ago and have been back for a couple of follow-up haircuts since. Really happy with the results every time — Lynne is friendly, professional and knows exactly what she’s doing. Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely amazing experience! Huge thanks to Jennifer — she is a top-tier professional who really knows how to handle thick, stubborn hair. I got a men's perm, and the result turned out even better than I expected. The salon itself has a fantastic atmosphere: very calm, quiet, and relaxed. The service is spot on, and they even offer great drinks while you wait. 10/10 service, highly recommend!

SELF-CARE SUNDAY | How Often Should You Actually Wash Your Hair?
Every day? Twice a week? Only when it starts to feel greasy?
The truth is, there isn’t one perfect hair-washing schedule for everyone.
How often you need to shampoo depends on your hair type, scalp, lifestyle and even how much styling product you use.
If your scalp becomes oily quickly, you exercise regularly or use a lot of wax, clay or styling products, you may find you need to wash more frequently. Drier, curly or textured hair can often go longer between washes.
Rather than following a strict rule, **pay attention to what your hair and scalp are telling you.**
If your scalp feels oily, itchy or uncomfortable, or your hair feels heavy with product, it’s probably time for a wash. And when you do shampoo, concentrate on cleansing the **scalp and roots** rather than scrubbing the lengths and ends.
Good hair starts with a healthy, well-cared-for scalp.
So, how often should you wash your hair? As often as your scalp and lifestyle actually need it.
Not sure what to get them? We’ve got you!!
