Wren & Thistle

In an effort to do a bit better at the social media/online side of Wren & Thistle I am working on some new photos and thought a wee reintroduction was in order.

Wren & Thistle is a mix of useful accessories and reusable items, all handmade by me and whilst working alongside my freelance job in Costume for Film/TV/Theatre/Concerts.

First up are my reusable face pads and face cloths. Made from a beautiful soft bamboo towelling fabric on one side and pattered cotton on the other, it’s a chance to ditch the cotton pads and face wipes. These can be used with your usual cleanser to clean off make up and wash your face and then can be popped in the wash and reused again and again. (Face pads should be washed in a laundry bag ..a redesign of my ones will be coming soon)

These will be listed soon on my NuMonday page, but until then can be found in The Leith Collective in Fort Kinnaird or Livingston.

Here's your first look at California Schemin', the directorial debut of
James McAvoy, starring BAFTA Award nominee Samuel Bottomley and one of 2024's Rising Stars Scotland, Séamus McLean Ross!

🎙️ In the late 90’s, Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd had their musical ambitions consistently ridiculed for having the ‘wrong’ accents, so they went for broke and reinvented themselves as Californian rappers.

California Schemin’ follows the duo as they re-recorded their own tracks with fake accents and turned up in London claiming to be an established duo on the California scene as well as childhood friends with Eminem. They quickly bagged themselves a record deal, a hefty sum in advances, and an appearance on MTV…until it all came crashing down.

📚 California Schemin’ is based on Gavin Bain’s autobiography of the same name, which was later re-printed as Straight Outta Scotland. The story was also adapted for 2013 documentary The Great Hip Hop Hoax.

Currently in post-production, the film was picked up by Studiocanal for release in UK & Ireland. Bankside Films are handling international sales, while UTA Independent Film Group is repping North America, and will be showing a promo at the forthcoming EFM.

California Schemin’ is produced by Danny Page of Homefront Productions and Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures, alongside Paul Aniello of Tartan Bridge and Simon Kay. The film is produced with funding from the National Lottery through Screen Scotland and Mendelsohn’s Union Patriot Capital affiliate is financing the film production.

Looking forward to my first market at Brand Family Farm and my first one of the winter season!

Where has this year gone? I think I jinxed myself saying it was going to be a productive year for Wren & Thistle then disappearing altogether!

Between organising and decorating the new house and lots of filming days (all of which I’m very grateful for), as well as general life challenges, it’s been an overwhelming start to the year!

I am finally getting some sewing done in my lovely new workroom and have signed up to a summer market at Newhailes House in August as well as already starting to think about winter markets (missing all my market pals!) and will try to make up for my extended absence!

Between theatre-ing, filming, decorating and other sewing work Wren & Thistle has taken a wee back seat. I promise once the new workroom is decorated and organised you will see far more from me in the coming months!
