I recently did a French Finish and it took me back to start of my career. 🕣

When I was newly qualified and working in Devon, I was doing a lot of French Finishes as it was a really popular choice amongst clients. 🤍

Creating a French Finish had even been part of my Bio Sculpture Gel training assessment. 💅

When I relocated to London to persue my career in the nail industry, the nail trend was completely different. Clients were requesting short, dark nails. 🖤

This is where my love for a well manicured, well painted, short natural nail comes from and the area I choose to specialise in today. 🙂

Doing this recent French Finish made me think about how long I've been in the industry and how far I've come. 😱

As a solo beauty pro in her early forties, I've come to realise that my years of experience is far more valuable to a client who chooses to book an appointment with me, than the number of followers I do or don't have or the number of likes I do or don't have. 🙌

Here are some fun facts on what the industry use to look like 25 years ago. 🤪

✨️Client record cards were hand written & stored in a filing cabinet.
✨️You never did a model call, you just practiced on friends & family.
✨️Formal uniforms were always worn.
✨️You offered everything! Specialising wasn't a thing.
✨️You were trained in electrolysis!
✨️You cleaned the wax pots, wiped down the sunbed, folded towels, made the tea & dusted the retail shelves before you started treating clients.
✨️Wages were low, but you stayed because you genuinely loved the industry.
✨️Learning came from text books, practical demos & hands on experience. Online training wasn't a thing.
✨️Booking systems didn't exist! If a client wanted an appointment, they'd phone the salon or walk in to book.
✨️There were no camera phones & no social media. We didn't photograph our work & we didn't share it.

Here's a question for you...

It absolutely amazes me, how often a new client will say to me, during there first gel manicure treatment with me 'My nails normally burn when I get a gel manicure and they're not today'. 😱
