Hi, i am Caroline with 45 years experiance. 34 years with our own salon Castina Hair Studio with Mum. Sold 1st January 2016.
Have been self emplyed in my old salon which changed to Iconic for the last 9 years. Starting at Fades & Shades on 24th April 😊 I am now Self-Employed at my old salon which is now owned by Claire Ebden and called Iconic! Things have changed a bit since covid hit which has now altered my working week! I know offer a mobile service on a Tuesday/Wednesday and work in the Salon on Thursday/Fridays. I have over 40 years experience in all aspects of hairdressing and being salon based have kept up to date with hairdressing trends! I have also done many courses in colouring, perming and have twice attended cutting courses at the Vidal Sassoon Acadamy in London each lasting a week! I offer Senior Citizens rates everyday! I still do Shampoo and Sets and do have an extremely large and loyal clientale! I very much look forward to welcoming you!
I do love my job even though there are days the pain is so bad I could cry but my lovely clients make it worth while!
Yesterday I did a new lady who is a friend also. She has been through a tough time with cancer and lost her hair and when it grew back it has been slightly wavy but not enough so she came to see me to discuss having a light perm! Yesterday she came in, I really wish I had done a before and after photo🙈 I always forget. It was quite long so I used black curlers (biggest you can get) and did a brick wind and it came out lovely. Her hair was natural in colour so it took beautifully and looked very natural.

So lovely to get a message like this, it means so much to know you have made a difference, even in just a small way like doing their hair! This is why I love my job!!
I maybe almost 62 but I can still help to make a small difference. If only I could do Facelifts at the same time 😂🤣

Celebrating 1 year at Fades & Shades 🥳
Grew up with hairdressing and started a Saturday job at Circles by John when I was 14. Then went onto The House of RoAnne as a Saturday girl. My apprenticeship started on 27th May 1980 working along side my Mum.
May 10th 1982 Mum fulfilled her dream and opened her own salon, Castina Hair Studio was born! My Dad was the one who came up with the name with the logo back then using the C & T shaped as a pair of scissors! We had the salon until January 2016! I still trade today under the Castina name, I feel it’s Mum & my late dear Dad’s legacy to keep it, plus it’s part of our surname! As you know since selling I stayed in the salon self employed and after the pandemic when so many things changed I started to do mobile too! The industry is very different from when I started out all those years ago but I am blessed to still have so many clients who have supported both Mum & myself from way back before Castina was even born!
48 years ago I started my journey as a Saturday girl never really thinking hairdressing was going to be my career and here we are 2026 and still going strong and carrying on the Castina name!
This last year has flown by but my god so has the other 48 years 🙈 how can I be almost 62?
Thank you to Nora, Liz & Nawal for making this last year fabulous, here’s to hopefully more even though I would love to retire I think I will always do a couple of days after 67 if my body is willing 🥰
Last but not least to all my wonderful clients, you have become dear friends over our many years together. We have been through quite a lot together too! I really appreciate and value each and everyone of you for all your support over the years because without all of you the Castina name would not still be trading! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

UPDATE‼️
This morning my operation for next week 27th April has been cancelled 🙈😩.
It has been rescheduled for Friday 15th May (fingers crossed)🤞
I am now in the process of contacting everyone with appointments for 15th,19th,20th,21st & 22nd May to rebook you all for another date so I will be in touch.

Just a little reminder that I will be going into hospital for a small Sinus infection operation on Monday 27th April! Hopefully I will be back Wednesday 6th May (Mobile day) and back in the salon Thursday 7th May! Fingers crossed it’s not cancelled at the last minute otherwise you will hear me screaming from RD&E Exeter 🤣!! Only been waiting for over a year for it and two years from referral to ENT so fingers crossed!

There will be a small price increase from 1st April 2026.
I am really sorry to have to do this but sadly with the increase in stock, tax, national insurance etc it is something I have no choice in doing. I have tried to keep the prices down and I haven’t put up mobile prices for two years.
I love the dynamics in which I work being able to look after clients at home and look after all of those who prefer to come to a salon.
Last year when sadly Iconic closed I was lucky enough to be offered a place with Nora & her team at Fades & Shades and I have loved it there but like all business in Towns these days overheads are ever increasing and it’s hard not to have to increase prices.
I am as always forever grateful for each and everyone of you, my clients, both Salon & Mobile for supporting me & continuing to keep the Castina name going when we were in a salon & through me since I became self employed! Over the years we have become friends, not just clients and I hope to still be doing your hair until I’m 67 and probably beyond 🤣

‼️HOLIDAY INFORMATION‼️
I will be away from Friday 9th January for two weeks, I will be back Mobile on Wednesday 28th January and return to the salon on Thursday 29th January! I won’t be able to answer calls or texts whilst I’m away but I will see them and make a note and contact you on my return!

Firstly I just want to say a huge Thank you to all of my clients this week for being so understanding, it’s not been an easy week having to cancel and resort but you have all been amazing & supportive and I really appreciate each and everyone of you 🥰
My first Christmas season at Fades & Shades and I have put Nora & Liz through it to by not being there! They have been absolutely brilliant and sorted some of my clients for me who are extremely grateful so Big Shout out to both of them! 🙏💐🥳
I have been to the drs this morning and yes it is this awful flu that’s going around and I have antibiotics for my chest so hopefully now I will be on the mend and can kick this Flu in the ass, I’ve had enough now!
Look forward to seeing you all next week! I have to be better by then surly 🙈

Sadly this Flu doesn’t seem to want to shift! I tried to go back to work today but just couldn’t, I am just still to ill! I am awaiting a call from the duty Drs but I doubt there will be any miracle cure either so here I am still in bed trying to fight this. I am absolutely gutted and am so sorry sorry to all of you my lovely clients for having had to cancel your appointments this week. You have all been so understanding and I will be back in touch soon to see what I can do!
