We often think dermal filler simply disappears after a year or two.

But that’s not always what happens.

This week I treated a patient who had jaw filler placed around 5–6 years ago. She felt her jawline had gradually become heavier. Using ultrasound, we identified persistent hyaluronic acid filler in the area.

We dissolved it with hyaluronidase, and after the first treatment the heaviness has already started to improve. We’ve now completed a second treatment, and I’ll share the final results soon.

Not all fillers are the same.

One of the biggest myths I hear is that the “strongest” filler must be the best filler.

In reality, different areas of the face need different properties.

If I want structure and projection, I may choose a firmer filler.

If I want softness, flexibility and natural movement, I may choose a softer filler.

The goal isn’t to use the strongest product.

The goal is to choose the right product for the tissue, the anatomy and the result we are trying to achieve.
