I am a Registered Nurse, currently working in a Senior Nurse role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Queen Alexandra Hospital. I have over 30 years experience working as a nurse within the NHS. I have a BSc (Hons) in Health Promotion and a Nurse prescribing qualification at Masters level. My practice is governed and endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Legislation is currently in development so that those with a medical qualification - ie: Doctors, nurses and dentists will be the only professionals legally able to administer anti wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers. What is Botox?
‘Botox’ is the brand name for Botulinum A. It is manufactured under this name by a pharmaceutical company called Allergan. It is a type of protein produced by a bacteria, which is fermented and then purified by Allergan to create ‘Botox’. It has been used worldwide safe for over 30 years and obtained FDA approval in 1989. It is used to treat various medical conditions as well as being widely known for a beauty treatment used to reduce the appearance of active lines developed through ageing. It relaxes muscles by blocking the nerve pathway, thereby softening and relaxing the lines. It is a temporary treatment, not permanent, typically lasting 3 - 4 months, depending upon the individual. It is injected superficially, just beneath the skin surface with a small needle. Typically for the upper face 3 areas are treated - frown lines, forehead and crows feet. Areas of treatments are client choice, although forehead and frown lines are usually treated together, with or without crows feet. Prices
