Massive congratulations to LF on passing her driving test today in Portsmouth, a place she’d never even driven before!

L was also my first female student to go to test - big Girl Power win !

She only had 2 driving faults, which is an incredible achievement. This truly highlights the power of the LDC system, helping learners become safe, confident drivers for life!

L came to me from another instructor after feeling she needed a more feminine approach. She’d been unsuccessful on a previous test and wanted to try something different.

During our first lesson, it became clear that some key foundations were missing, so we focused on rebuilding her confidence and developing a stronger understanding of safe driving. This was especially challenging as her job is dealing with car accident claims, this made it difficult to separate her work experiences from her own driving confidence.

But through her perseverance, self-reflection, and commitment week after week, she made incredible progress.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and information after receiving a report of a suspicious incident in Fleet.

We received a report that a 12-year-old girl was approached by a white van on Beech Ride at around 2.40pm on Wednesday 15 January.

It was reported that the passenger, a white man aged in his late 20s to early 30s, who was wearing an orange jumper, spoke to the girl and offered her sweets. The girl did not respond and walked away from the van. The driver then left the area.

Since this was reported to us, officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries, including reassurance patrols in the local area.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and would like witnesses to come forward. Were you in the area at the time? Did you witness any suspicious behaviour or a white van?

Fleet Police Sergeant Geoff Hill said: “We know this incident may be concerning to the local community, however I would like to reassure you that we are taking this report seriously.

“We have been carrying out regular reassurance patrols in the area and anyone with information which could help our enquiries should get in touch with us.

“I would urge residents to continue to report incidents to us as soon as they happen as it enables our teams to respond accordingly.”

What is a safe distance between you and another vehicle and how much does it change in different weather?

Good Weather - dry roads - requires a minimum of 2 second gap - it’s called the 2 second rule
How do you work it out? No you do t just count 1:2

Find a reference mark in the road which as a pothole, paint mark, something that won’t move.

As the back of the car in front passes say at a normal pace ‘only a fool breaks the two second rule’ if the front of your car passes before that you are too close.

This is a minimum time gap for the distance between the back of their car and the front of yours - it takes us 2 seconds to react

Wet Weather - wet roads - requires a minimum of 4 seconds gap say the sentence above twice

Ice and snow needs at least if not more a 10x stopping distance - so in good weather it’s 2 seconds 2x10 = 20, so a MINIMUM 20 second gap at an absolute minimum.

IN ANY WEATHER - if you have tailgaters you should leave double the distance of any of those at least to prevent them from causing you to hit a

Another rule is only go as fast as you can safely see to stop, if your going 70 and can’t see round a bend you should not be going 70!

It’s surprising how too fast we go!

No one leaves gaps and if we did there would be very few rear end accidents.

I hope you are all well. I hope you do not mind me posting this request.

I am about to embark on a 24 hour sponsored swim in aid of Level 24 in celebration of my 50th year on this planet.

I am hoping that you would be kind enough to sponsor me even if it is just 1p (As Asda says every little helps 🤩)

I am embarking on a sponsored open water event. I will be swimming a minimum of 4 hours over times within a 24 hour period on 8-9 June 2024.

As an ex-competitive swimmer and swimming teacher who spent many hours volunteering with a disabled swimmers group I feel very close to this charities ethos, Level 24 works alongside disabled children to ensure they have access to swimming lessons and swimming facilities

My challenge is to swim within a team of 8, we have to swim constantly for 1 hour each on rotation over the 24 hours, we have to keep ourselves motivated and warm and cheerful even when it's 3am cold and possibly rainy!
