I’m Jo Hannan, a skin specialist and Corneotherapist, and I work differently from a traditional beauty salon.

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, alongside the natural ageing process, affect the way our skin functions. One important change is the effect on the skin barrier. When this becomes compromised, skin can lose moisture more readily and become increasingly dry, sensitive and reactive.

Phototherapy experts Dermalux launched their new Face Mask earlier this month and I have been busy trying it out daily for the last two weeks!

LED can be a really useful addition to a good skincare routine, but it is not a magic fix, and I think that is important to say.

What do you notice first?

Sometimes the most noticeable change isn’t a dramatic one.

It’s when skin simply starts to look brighter, fresher and more rested.

This before and after photograph was taken following a course of 10 Neurotris SX3800 treatments.

The skin here didn’t need more products it needed less.

Corneotherapy in action

This client in her 20s came to me chronic breakouts, inflammation and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Like so many people struggling with their skin, she had been trying to treat what she could see at the surface with multiple skincare products.
But when the skin’s barrier is compromised, trying the ‘fix’ the symptoms can keep the skin stuck in a cycle of inflammation, irritation and incomplete healing.

So we changed the approach.

Rather than bombarding the skin, we focused on supporting and rebuilding its natural barrier function.

Today’s post was prompted by an advertisement for Active skincare on sale!
Sale ‘bargains’ of any kind are often tempting, but when it comes to skin, opting for skincare based solely on a discount, or impulse purchasing - especially with active skincare can mean you buy products that simply don’t suit where your skin is.

I often meet new clients who are using a cocktail of actives on their skin and yet their skin may be sensitive, irritated, dull or dehydrated.
