It's been a minute since I've done a set of nails that weren't my own. This year has been a tough one, starting an apprenticeship, struggling with my mental health, leading to struggling with my college work, and losing my car in a horrific car accident that lead to another decline in my mental health, and in between all of that, somewhere along the line I fell out of love with doing nails.

But, my daughter requested a set of nails for Halloween, so I spent the evening coming up with these. I had forgotten how therapeutic doing nails is for me, and realised how much I miss it.

I've decided that in the new year, once I have a car sorted, have replenished my stocks and Christmas is out of the way, I will start doing them again, and will be taking new bookings and clients. I will no longer be offering acrylics, only hard gel extensions, gel polish and natural nail services.

Why Choose Gel Polish?

There are so many reasons that you might want to choose a gel polish on natural nails over acrylic or gel enhancements. Here I delve into just a few, to help you see if it’s the right service for you!

~ A Gel manicure typically takes around an hour from start to finish, whereas acrylic or gel enhancements can take over 2 hours. Removing them is easy, adding very little time onto the service when it comes to getting them changed, unlike acrylic, where it is possible to spend half an hour to an hour just filing off the previous design ready for a new one!

~ You may feel that acrylic and gel enhancements look unnatural, or are too bulky for your liking. A Gel manicure adds very little bulk to the nail, but with the proper aftercare you can get just as much wear out of them as an enhancement. It is not much thicker than a normal varnish; but it is much faster drying, smudge-proof, and much less likely to chip. What’s more, there’s no harsh chemical smell like there is with acrylic.

~ Sometimes enhancements just aren’t suitable for your lifestyle. You may love the designs that you’ve seen on acrylic and gel enhancements, but because of your job, hobbies or exercise routines, long nails just aren’t practical. Choosing a Gel manicure means that you can keep your natural nails short, but the design options are just as varies as enhancements!

~ In some cases, you may have been refused enhancements because your nails are too short, usually in the case of bitten nails. Perhaps you wanted the enhancements to help you stop biting.
