We’re currently dealing with a managing agent who issued a rent invoice that is not owed, despite being fully aware of a long-standing roof defect that has never been repaired and is not our responsibility under the lease.

Because of this unresolved roof leak, we have already lost thousands of pounds worth of stock, which became damp, damaged, and not fit for sale. This is stock we worked hard to create and paid for and now gone because a known problem was ignored.

When we challenged the rent demand, the response was essentially “because I said so”. That attitude has forced us to spend so much more on solicitor advice just to protect ourselves from demands that should never have been made in the first place.

Issuing a rent demand on 9th December for thousands due by Christmas Day has caused extreme stress, intermittent shop closures, and completely overshadowed what should have been family time.

We are a small business. We should not be bullied into paying money we do not owe, while absorbing huge losses caused by someone else’s failure to do their job properly.

We are dealing with this formally because we are right and because staying silent only enables this kind of behaviour. Thank you to everyone who continues to support us during a situation that should never have existed.
