Why aspiration is important
Reduces risk of vascular occlusion: Aspiration aims to identify if the needle is inside a blood vessel, which could lead to a vascular occlusion if filler is injected.
Prevent tissue necrosis: If filler is injected into a vessel, it can cause blockage and lead to tissue death (necrosis).
Provides a safety check: The technique serves as a screening test to indicate whether the injection site is potentially unsafe. A "positive aspirate" (blood flashback) means the injector should move the needle and try again.
