🚨 Positive aspiration 🚨

✨ What does a positive aspiration mean? ✨

It’s when the practitioner draws back on the needle and blood fills the needle. This means they’ve entered a blood vessel.

✨ What happens when this occurs? ✨

When you have a positive aspiration if you were to continue you would be injecting into the blood vessel and cause an occlusion, meaning the blood can no longer flow through the blood vessel which can lead to necrosis (death of tissue).

✨ Is it safe to continue with the appointment? ✨

Yes if you have a positive aspiration safely withdraw the needle and change for a fresh one. You can then continue with the appointment, repositioning the needle before injecting.
