Being part of Reclaiming Our Power with the Mental Health Foundation gave Henna Hub UK another opportunity to explore what creative practice can make possible when people are given space to participate, express themselves and share something of their own experience.

Using colour and henna art, participants created pieces that were personal to them. But what stayed with me was everything happening around the creative process too.

The conversations.
The stories behind what people created.
The curiosity between people who may not otherwise have had a reason to connect.

For me, that’s one of the things that makes creative spaces so powerful.

They can give people something to do together, while creating opportunities for connection, expression and cultural exchange.

I’m grateful to everyone involved in Reclaiming Our Power and to the participants who brought their own meaning, stories and creativity into the work.

This experience continues to reinforced something I have been building, that henna art can be a starting point for something much bigger than decoration.

I’ve recently joined a new holistic and wellbeing platform called Onistos Holistic & Wellbeing Platform , and I wanted to share it here because I think it’s a really interesting idea.

It’s a space where wellbeing practitioners, businesses and people looking for different approaches to wellbeing can discover one another, explore services and find events and experiences.

I’ve created a profile for Henna Hub UK on there too, and it’s been lovely to see the platform beginning to take shape.

There are so many different approaches to wellbeing, and I like the idea of having a space where people can discover some of those options in one place.

Sharing for anyone who works in wellbeing, offers a wellbeing service, runs events or is simply interested in discovering something different 🌿

I’m looking forward to seeing how the platform develops.

Sometimes, you leave a henna appointment with more than just a beautiful design.

One of my client’s mums gave me the warmest hug before she left, and it stayed with me.

We had spent time talking about henna, the different ways it lives within our cultures, and how something as simple as sitting together and creating can open the door to conversations about life, joy, resilience and the things that connect us.

She and her daughter came for henna, but what stayed with me was the connection we shared.

This is one of the things I love most about this artistry.

It has introduced me to so many incredible people, each with their own stories, experiences and ways of seeing the world.

And every time someone steps into Henna Hub, they add something to the story of what we are building.

I’m deeply grateful for that.

Some things we build long before we have the language to describe what they might become.

Looking back, I can see that my journey with henna was never simply about creating designs.

It brought together years of making, a scientific background that taught me to question what lies beneath the surface, and an unexpected discovery in the UK that made me look at henna differently.

What began as something I had always loved creating slowly became a business. Then it became a space for education, connection, creativity and wellbeing.

Along the way, I have taken the artistry beyond the skin into workshops, community spaces, collaborations, exhibitions, fundraising and creative projects.

What continues to interest me most is not only what can be created, but what can happen around the act of creating: the conversations it opens, the connections it makes, the knowledge it can share, and the spaces it can create for people to participate and belong.

I’m still discovering what this can become.

This carousel is a small piece of that journey and a glimpse into the experiences, curiosity and person behind the work.

There is still so much to build, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the journey leads.

What looks like waste can become a starting point for creativity, connection and possibility.

Through art, we created a space where 23 empty baby food tins could become something more.

People painted, experimented, shared ideas and created something uniquely their own, then took their tins home to reuse, store something meaningful in, or simply keep as a reminder of what they had made.

But the real value of creative spaces in communities is not always what is left on the table.

It is the opportunity to pause, explore, express yourself and try something without the pressure of getting it “right”. It is the sense of belonging that can emerge when people make something alongside one another.

Here, sustainability became part of the process, creativity became a way to connect, and an everyday discarded object became something worth keeping.

Art can be the starting point. What happens around it can become something much bigger.

That is what creative wellbeing can make possible: turning simple acts of making into moments of expression, connection and meaning.
