MY WORK IS IN BLACK BEAUTY & HAIR MAGAZINE! 😭
Seeing “Crowning Glory” printed inside the August/September issue feels incredibly special.
For the Fellowship Project Afro 2026/ HairCon, I chose to work independently with my model and create this hairstyle from scratch. It pushed me beyond the braiding techniques I knew and into completely unfamiliar creative territory.
The process included two near-sleepless nights, running on roughly two hours of sleep, and one major outfit hiccup. When the outfit from my original mood board didn’t arrive, I had to think quickly and repurpose pieces I had used previously to complete the model’s look.
Sophia Sestanovich offered reassurance while I navigated the outfit uncertainty. Our guest mentor, Stephen Debellotte, was instrumental in expanding my colour vision and encouraging me to make the makeup pop rather than keeping it muted. Showed up for me when I needed help with sharpening the look.
Our mentor, Patricia Davis also encouraged me to keep pushing beyond my comfort zone while ensuring the final creation remained something I genuinely loved.
With resilience, determination and a lot of problem-solving, the idea in my head became “Crowning Glory”👑
This isn’t simply a photograph in a magazine. It represents the moment I trusted myself to create beyond what was familiar.
Afro hair can be art, structure and storytelling and it deserves to take up space across editorial pages.
Swipe to see the feature, the process and the finished creation.
Thank you to everyone who supported this vision.

Leigh wanted birthday hair with volume, movement and a little drama and these boho box braids understood the assignment. 😍
Her reaction at the end is the best part!

Your braids can look flawless and still be wrong for your scalp.
If you’ve ever left a braiding appointment with a throbbing scalp, painful edges or a style so tight you couldn’t sleep comfortably, please know: pain is not proof that your braids were done well or that they’ll last longer.
At Beauty Splendour, I consider more than the finished photograph. I look at your:
🤎 hair density
🤎 scalp sensitivity
🤎 hairline and edges
🤎 chosen length and weight
🤎 overall comfort
Sometimes that means adapting the size, fullness or placement of a style to better suit your hair.
Because your braids should look beautiful, but your comfort is part of the result too.
If you’re in Glasgow and a previous painful experience has made you nervous about getting braids again, you deserve better than having to brace yourself through another appointment.
Have you ever left a salon looking good but feeling like your scalp had been through something? Tell me below—I’d genuinely love to hear your experience.

“Cornrows had never really clicked for Lydia.”
Not because she wasn’t capable. She simply needed to see the technique broken down visually, practise it with guidance and understand what her hands were supposed to be doing.
As a visual learner, Lydia found it helpful to watch each demonstration both in front of her and on screen before replicating it on her mannequin.
During the Braid Beginner Workshop, she began understanding:
How to start a cornrow
How to create cleaner sections and partings
How to use her tail comb and gel effectively
How strong foundations can unlock so many different hairstyles
She left the workshop ready to buy her own mannequin head and continue practising at home. That is exactly the kind of confidence I want every student to take away.
Perhaps you have watched countless tutorials, but your fingers still become confused.
Perhaps you want to style your own natural hair or confidently braid your child’s hair.
Or perhaps you are a complete beginner who needs patient, practical and visual guidance.
You do not need to know how to braid before you arrive. You come to learn.
The next Braid Beginner Workshop takes place on:
📅 Sunday 18 October
📍 Bishopbriggs, Glasgow
Small-group, hands-on teaching
Complete beginners welcome
If Lydia’s experience sounds like the kind of support you need, comment “BEGINNER” below and I’ll send you the details.
Prefer to ask privately? DM me “BEGINNER” and we can talk about whether the workshop is right for you.

The shift I wasn’t prepared for as an Afro Hair Specialist?
Realising that the more you learn, the more you see how much more there is to understand.
Project Afro Team Day 5 took us to Sorbie at the House of Keune, where we spent the day with Stephen Debellotte exploring texture management, the STS system, silk pressing and how Afro-textured hair responds through each stage.
Theory became practice, we worked hands-on with our models, and the results were beautiful but for me, the biggest takeaway was understanding the why behind the process.
Sorbie at the House of Keune looked after us so well too, the snacks, fruit and drinks did not go unnoticed. 😂
Huge thank you to Stephen, our mentors, my Project Afro teammates, our models and the entire team who made the day what it was.

POV: You’re nervous about trying caramel braids… and then you see the colour and immediately think, “Yep. That’s me.” 😍
That was Adeline.
She came in wanting something a little different for Reggaeland, something fun, warm and full of personality.
We decided on medium bra-length box braids with a gorgeous caramel and brown colour blend.
Now… Adeline was a little unsure about stepping away from what she was used to.
But the minute she walked in and saw the caramel shade?
She loved it.
And once the finished braids were in, there was absolutely no going back. 😂
The hair flicks in this Reel tell you everything you need to know.
What made this appointment even lovelier is that Adeline has been coming to me for years, so our appointments are never just about doing her hair.
There’s always plenty of catching up, laughter and good conversation along the way.
And THIS colour on her? Beautiful.
Sometimes the shade you’re most nervous to try ends up being the one that makes you wonder why you waited so long. 🤎
Thinking about trying a different braid colour but unsure what will suit you?
DM me “COLOUR” with your inspiration, or view my braid services and book through the link in my bio.

Fuller braids aren’t always better for your hair.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a beautifully full result. But the amount of extension hair your natural hair can safely support depends on your:
• hair density
• hairline
• strand strength
• chosen length and weight
Sometimes, protecting your edges means adjusting the size, length or number of braids and that doesn’t mean sacrificing a beautiful finish.
At Beauty Splendour, I don’t only consider how your braids will look on day one. I consider the condition I want your natural hair and edges to be in when the braids come out.
So, be honest: maximum fullness today or healthier edges long-term, which would you choose?
Thinking about braids but unsure what would suit your hair?
