The fear that there’s not enough to go around…

One of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve made over the years is letting go of the belief that there’s “not enough.”

Not enough clients.
Not enough money.
Not enough opportunities.

For too long, our industry has been conditioned to believe that every new salon opening, every therapist launching a treatment, or every price change from a competitor somehow takes something away from us.

But that’s simply not true.

The beauty and wellness industry is thriving, and there are more than enough clients for businesses that genuinely care about what they do.

Here’s what I’ve learned…

People buy people first.

They choose how you make them feel. They connect with your personality, your values, your brand, your atmosphere and the experience you create. An exceptional service comes a very close second.

No one can replicate you.

They can offer the same treatment.
They can charge the same prices.
They can even create a salon with a similar look.

But they can never recreate your energy, your passion, your story or the unique experience your clients have with you.

So instead of seeing other salons as competition, why not celebrate them?

Support one another.
Cheer each other on.
Recommend each other when you’re fully booked.
Celebrate each other’s wins.

When one business raises the standard, it inspires the whole industry to grow.

A mindset of abundance will always take you further than a mindset of scarcity.

The energy you put out into the world has a funny way of finding its way back to you.

There really is enough to go around.

Before you scroll through TikTok or Instagram and wonder why you’re not where someone else is, remember this…

What you don’t see are the years spent building, the sacrifices made, the sleepless nights, the tears, the financial worries, the self-doubt, the exhaustion, and the moments of questioning whether it was all worth it.

Social media is a highlight reel. It rarely shows the setbacks, the failures, or the hard work happening behind the scenes.

Someone else’s success isn’t proof that you’re behind. Everyone is on a different journey, facing different challenges and taking different paths.

Stay focused on your own progress. Celebrate your wins, however small they may seem, and trust that consistency will take you further than comparison ever will.

Jenny was invited to speak with BBC News as a spokesperson for the beauty and wellness industry on an issue that many professionals face but too few talk about openly: inappropriate behaviour and sexual comments directed at therapists.

While the vast majority of our clients are respectful, kind, and genuinely value the care we provide, there remains a small minority whose behaviour can make therapists feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, and even unsafe.

Beauty, spa, and wellness professionals deserve the same respect as any other healthcare or service professional. No therapist should have to tolerate sexual innuendos, inappropriate remarks, or behaviour that compromises their dignity, confidence, or sense of safety at work.

It’s time for the conversation to change. We must continue to raise awareness, support our teams, and create environments where therapists feel protected, respected, and empowered to speak up.

To every therapist who has experienced this: your safety matters, your boundaries matter, and your profession deserves respect.
