I don't know how many times I've heard people blaming their mattress for their sore hip or shoulder.
I hate to be the one to break it to you but...it's not the mattress, it's you.
Our bodies are asymmetrical. The vast majority of us are dominant on our right side which causes more compression on that side of our torso.
Many of us are also stuck in rib flare (extension pattern) due to poor positioning and breathing mechanics.
Thus causes a shortening of the back, neck and/or hips - combined with a shortening on the dominant side which can alter our centre of mass and cause us to compensate in a variety of ways...
This doesn't fix itself just because we are lying down and so the restorative sleep that you are trying to get isn't so restorative after all.
This is exactly what we work on in class. Tuning into our bodies, exploring movement options and working on breathing mechanics to help restore function.
A new block starts online tonight at 7:30pm

Do your shoes cause uncomfortable pressure points on the top or sides of your feet?
Redness, blistering or callus buildup probably means that your shoes are too narrow for you.
Holes and bulging of the outside of your shoes can be a telltale sign that you need a wider shoe.
Another wee trick to check s to take the insole of your shoe out and put your foot on top....does it overhang?
Did you know that there are allsorts of lacing tricks to help accommodate your feet inside them shoes?
Here is one of them...
Leave the bottom two holes free and lace up from there and bobsyeraunty. Mair space for them tootsies to splay!
(P.s. You might wanna look into getting wider shoes in the long term)

Meltdowns are totally predictable whether you are four or forty-four.
They always follow a pattern of
- not sleeping well
- not eating well
- working too much
- being around certain people/places
There are many layers to stress accumulation.
The only way out is in.
Focus on yourself.
Eat. Sleep. Move. Breathe. Repeat.
Movement class is online tonight at 7:30pm.
Follow the link in bio to book.
Get out if your head and into your body.
I can't tell you how much it helps.

The big bones at the back of the foot are for load bearing, and the smaller bones in the front allow for lots of movement. โฃ
โฃ
The calcaneus is the largest and strongest bone in the foot. It plays an important role in weight bearing and stability. It's also an incredible shock absorber as it withstands huge amounts of impact when walking and running.โฃ
โฃ
The mid-foot and forefoot on the other hand is way more intricate. These bones form a structure that's both solid and mobile. They can lock to provide a rigid lever to allow us to create propulsion and they can also unlock to help us absorb shock and withstand varieties in terrain.โฃ
โฃ
Understanding the structure of the foot gives us a pretty good idea of how we can take better care our feet ๐ค
โฃ
๐ฆถ We should be striking the ground with the heel so that big ol' Calcaneum can absorb the shock of 10,000 + steps per day!โฃ
โฃ
๐ฆถ Stand with your weight directly over your heels. Shoes that have a raised heel (and we're not just talking high heels, most running trainers have raised heels too) force your hips forward and overloads the intricate structures of the forefoot, which can lead to plantar fasciitis, bunions etc.โฃ
โฃ
๐ฆถ Forefoot structures need to be able to splay out & be mobile, they donโt perform well when squished so try to choose shoes with a wider toe box and invest in some toe spacers to help stretch them out whilst barefoot at home.โฃ
