Sunburn & Waxing: What You Need to Know

If your skin is sunburned, it’s best to avoid waxing until it has fully healed. Sunburn already damages and sensitises the skin, and waxing can cause further irritation, peeling, or even skin lifting.

✅ Wait until redness, tenderness, and peeling have completely gone away.
✅ Keep skin moisturized and protected with SPF.
✅ When in doubt, consult your waxer before your appointment.

Nobody tells men this happens after a back wax.

This is a completely normal reaction and here’s why;

* Hair is being pulled out from the root. Every hair follicle experiences a tiny amount of trauma, which triggers inflammation.

* Men often have thicker, denser back hair.
Thicker hairs require more force to remove, so the skin reacts more strongly.

* The back has lots of follicles and oil glands.
When hundreds or thousands of hairs are removed in one session, widespread redness can occur.

* Increased blood flow. The skin temporarily sends extra blood to the area as part of the healing response, making it appear bright red or patchy.

Things that can help:
* Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser or soothing aloe vera gel.
* Wear loose clothing.
* Avoid hot showers, saunas, intense exercise, swimming pools, and heavy sweating for 24 hours.
* Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating for the first 24-48 hours (then gentle exfoliation a few times a week can help prevent ingrown hairs).
