OCTOBER IS PREGNANCY & INFANT LOSS AWARENESS MONTH

October is a month that means so much to so many families.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month was first officially recognised in the United States in 1988, when the US Congress designated October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. President Ronald Reagan then formally proclaimed October 1988 as a month of awareness, calling for greater understanding of the devastation caused by miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss, and for better support for bereaved parents and families.

But behind the words awareness month are real babies, real families and real grief.

It is for the parents who had to leave hospital with empty arms.

For the mums and dads whose baby was born sleeping.

For the families who had to say goodbye far too soon.

For the siblings, grandparents, friends and wider families who carry that loss too.

And for the babies who may not have had the chance to grow up, but who will always be loved, remembered and part of their family.

At Baby Loss Retreat, we know that baby loss doesn't end when the funeral is over or when everyone else returns to normal life.

The grief can stay with you.

Sometimes silently.

Sometimes years later.

This October, let's talk about our babies.
Let's remember their names.
Let's check in on the parents we know.
Let's listen without judgement.
And let's make sure nobody feels they have to grieve alone.

Every baby matters. Every loss matters. Every parent matters.
