Should your line manager or employer question how many hospital appointments you have because you live with diabetes?

Living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is a 24/7 responsibility. Regular healthcare appointments may be necessary to monitor blood glucose, HbA1c, eyes, kidneys, feet, heart health, medications, diabetes technology and potential complications.

Yet some people living with diabetes are left feeling as though they must repeatedly justify their appointments or prove that their health needs are genuine.

In this video, I discuss the important difference between reasonable workplace attendance management and diabetes-related stigma or suspicion.

I explore:
* Why people with diabetes may need multiple healthcare appointments
* Why attending appointments can actually help us stay well and remain productive at work
* The role of employers and line managers.
* Workplace understanding and reasonable adjustments.
* Why diabetes should never be treated as an excuse or evidence of poor commitment.
* How better diabetes education can create healthier, more inclusive workplaces.

Going to hospital doesn't necessarily mean we're constantly ill. Sometimes, it's exactly how we're preventing ourselves from becoming seriously ill.

Employers need accountability, but employees living with chronic conditions also deserve dignity, understanding and respect.
