As the summer holidays are coming to an end, I am looking forward to getting back to some routine. But as I reflect on this summer, it got me thinking about how long the school summer holidays actually are!
What do we think about the current school holidays system? Is this “traditional” system old fashioned and aimed to be in line with older family dynamics when women used to be stay-at-home mums and men used to work full time? Or is this system working for you?
As a full time working mum, whose husband also works full time, we have definitely struggled through the years with childcare, especially when our children were younger. There’s no way one of us could be off work during school holidays and still be able to afford to pay our bills. But then a large chunk of people’s wages have to go on childcare during school holidays, and when this is 6 weeks of childcare all in one go, finances can take a huge hit. It probably used to work well when the cost of living was lower and one parent would go to work with the other staying at home, and the bills would still be covered. Would it be a good idea to take a look at the current system, which is decades old, and think about changing it to work in a different way? What would actually work better? Lower childcare costs? Flexible working hours? Cheaper holiday clubs put on by schools? Or changing when the children are off school so it’s not such a long period of time all at once? Any other ideas?
Oh, and don’t even get me started on the price difference of holidays in and out of term time, and the fines parents have to pay!
This goody bag is actually so exciting for me! Packed full of Icy Bear Dental products, some I’ve tried and some are new to me. It makes me wonder what my dad - who was a dentist - would have thought of these products. I would love to be able to ask him but we sadly lost him in 2020. I knew he wasn’t keen on me using peroxide teeth whitening products, as I did before my wedding back in 2011. I remember it discolouring my gums once and I got so scared! But the Icy Bear products are peroxide-free so that does not happen, they’re much more gentle.
I’m particularly interested in the new dental gummies as I’ve not really come across supplements for oral health before. I do remember as a child we had these little fluoride(?) sweets. They were like tiny tablets that you chewed. The younger siblings had the colourful ones and then the older siblings had the purple ones, which tasted nicer and I can still remember the taste and smell to this day.
I’m always very happy to receive beauty products too and the goody bag contains products from 3 brands I’ve not heard of before (forgive my ignorance, I’ve just not come across these yet) - .
I’m really excited to give these a go too! And I use products for my make-up and brushes but I haven’t tried and Isoskin yet.
Thank you again
I attended The Timeless Collective Event hosted by and it honestly stopped me worrying about ageing.
As much as I don’t like to admit it, I am getting older. I’m approaching my 40s, I feel like I am at a very weird stage. I’m not young. I’m not old. It’s that feeling that I’ve mentioned before - being “in between.” I don’t know where I am! I’m changing and it’s not easy. I worry about what’s coming next and struggle with how I am changing mentally, emotionally and physically.
The panel of experts really helped to validate my feelings. I felt like they were talking to me personally at many points in the conversation because they seemed to know exactly how I was feeling, and told me what I can expect in the next few years. I loved how each panelist had a different area of expertise so as an audience we could gain knowledge on so many topics. It was great to hear their own experiences and allow the audience to ask questions at the end. They also mingled afterwards so we could talk to them on a more intimate level. I have to say that everyone was so lovely and helpful. I left feeling much more positive about ageing and how I can make the most of myself over the next few years.
Thank you so much to Icy Bear Dental and your fabulous (and hilarious) team! Such a different event for me and I hope there are more to come!
