This year marks the 10 year anniversary of my small business š
In the UK, the long-term survival rate for small businesses is roughly 30ā35% at the 10-year mark according to figures commonly derived from UK Office for National Statistics business demography data.
And salons are not exactly an āeasy modeā business either. Youāre dealing with:
* repeat-client retention
* staffing challenges
* rent and utilities
* trends changing constantly
* physical burnout
* and a service that depends heavily on reputation and trust
A salon lasting a decade usually means it adapted through multiple economic shifts, changing client habits, probably COVID disruptions, and all the day-to-day operational chaos people outside the industry never see.
Iāve been in the hairdressing industry for 40 years, the hair replacement world for 15 & 10 years in my own space
Still here. Still growing.

I had followed Tara quite a while back. I was seeing what wasĀ online to fix hair loss and came across hair systems. I didnāt really think much ofĀ itĀ untilĀ I saw that Tara was looking for a model.
I thought this would be the perfect chance for me to try it out. I was a bit weary of getting the system because IĀ thought it would look fake and I thought it wouldnāt go well with my active life style.Ā
Tara put me into contact with another hair system wear that had gone through hair loss. He has a really similar life style to me and reassured me that it would be fine.Ā
As soon asĀ the system was fitted, I was feeling overwhelmed. I felt so emotional but so happy at the same time. I couldnāt believe how realistic it looked. Then when I went to take my firstĀ selfieĀ with it, I realised that I can takeĀ finally takeĀ full-faceĀ picturesĀ without having to hide half my head.
Today marks 10 years to the day of my appearance in a Sky TV lifestyle program & let me tell you my day didnāt start off how Iād hoped!!!
I certainly looked way more dishevelled that I would have liked but heyā¦ itās not about me it was about 2 guys answering a shout for models to have their first ever hair system fitted without having ever met me!
Now that what I call brave
10 years on, I still see both the guys & know exactly how much having hair has changed their lives.
