Very interesting to read this explanation of hair loss and the lymphatic system 👉
🌿 Why Hair Loss and the Lymphatic System Are Deeply Connected
Hair loss is one of the most emotional symptoms our bodies can express. It affects confidence, identity and the way we feel when we look in the mirror. But what many people don’t realise is that hair thinning, shedding or slow regrowth is deeply linked to the lymphatic system — the very system responsible for keeping the scalp clear, nourished and balanced.
Hair doesn’t fall out because the body is failing you. It falls out because the body is speaking to you. And when we understand the message, we can support it with so much more wisdom and gentleness.
The Scalp Is One of the Most Lymph-Rich Areas of the Body
Your scalp and neck contain a dense network of lymph nodes that work around the clock to clear away inflammation, toxins, excess oils, metabolic waste and tension from the tissues around the hair follicles.
When these nodes become overwhelmed or congested, the scalp becomes a heavier environment. Circulation slows, inflammation rises and hair follicles struggle to stay in the growth phase. This is often when people notice shedding, itchiness, tenderness or a tight, sensitive scalp.
Your scalp is not “misbehaving”. It is asking for better drainage.
Slow Lymph Flow Creates an Inflamed Scalp
Healthy hair needs a calm, well-oxygenated, low-inflammation environment. When lymph flow slows down, that balance shifts. The follicles become irritated. The scalp becomes reactive. Sebum oxidises faster. Even the texture of the hair can change.
Many people describe their scalp as dry yet oily at the same time, or sensitive to touch, or shedding more than usual. These are classic signs of lymph stagnation in the head and neck.
The body is not punishing you. It’s protecting you.
Inflammation is your body’s way of saying, “Something needs support here.”
Your Lymphatic System and Hormones Work Together
Hormones play a massive role in hair loss — but hormones don’t float around freely without being cleared. They rely on the lymphatic system and the liver for detoxification and balance.
If the lymph is sluggish, used hormones don’t clear properly. This can lead to postpartum shedding, perimenopause thinning, PCOS-related hair changes, thyroid-linked hair loss and stress-triggered shedding.
It is not always a “hormone problem”.
Often, it is a hormone clearance problem.
When Lymph Is Stagnant, Nutrients Struggle to Reach the Follicles
Hair follicles need a constant supply of oxygen, minerals and amino acids. Slow lymph flow means slow microcirculation, and slow microcirculation means the follicle is not receiving what it needs to stay strong.
This is why you can take the right supplements, eat the right foods and still not see changes. If the lymphatic system isn’t moving, the nutrients simply don’t reach the follicle effectively.
It’s not you. Your body is not resistant.
It just needs better flow.
Stress, the Vagus Nerve and Hair Loss
The lymphatic system is deeply connected to the vagus nerve, which regulates safety, stress, digestion and inflammation. When stress levels rise, the body goes into survival mode. Blood flow reroutes away from the scalp. Lymphatic movement slows. The follicles shift into shedding.
This is why people lose hair after emotional trauma, illness, burnout, grief or surgery. It’s not “just stress”. It’s a protective shutdown of the scalp’s drainage system.
Healing hair loss means helping the body feel safe again.
Supporting Scalp Lymph Flow Changes Everything
When you support lymphatic flow, the scalp responds quickly. Circulation improves. The tissues soften. Inflammation decreases. Nutrients finally reach the follicles again.
Many people report less shedding, a lighter feeling on the scalp, new baby hairs and improved shine within weeks.
Healing begins where flow returns.
Gentle Ways to Support Lymph Flow for Hair Health
Neck and scalp drainage
Light fascia release around the ears and jaw
Daily scalp massage
Warm, anti-inflammatory meals
Vagus nerve activation techniques
Proper hydration, magnesium and protein
Avoiding tight hairstyles and heavy products
Every small change creates space for the follicles to breathe again.
A Loving Final Thought
Your hair is not your enemy. Your hair is a messenger. When your lymphatic system is supported, the scalp becomes a healthier environment, and your hair begins to thrive again. Healing is not instant, but it is absolutely possible when we address the body with compassion, science and flow.
When lymph flows, hair blooms.
When your body feels safe, your scalp heals.

How are you feeling?
Are you looking after your own needs?
It’s all too easy to get stuck in a routine of running round after everyone else, leaving yourself at the bottom of the pile. Feeling exhausted, stressed, anxious, totally overwhelmed, not eating healthily and a lack of good restful sleep.
Making time for yourself and taking time out is a necessity to keeping well. Massage can have many benefits to our overall wellbeing. It can allow you that time to feel looked after, to let go and allow the mind and body to rest. Our nervous system can get stuck in fight or flight, massage can help to reset the body into rest 🫶. We were not meant to go 100mph every day.

The hustle and bustle of the summer is coming to an end, enjoying the sunshine, warmth, longer days, busy days, kids off school, juggling work, taking a holiday, being out and about more …. What’s your summer been like?….
As we now enter Autumn, kids are back to school, back to work, enjoying the autumn days at a slower pace - maybe 🤔. It’s a time when we instinctively start to slow down a bit, get back into routines. Wonder where to start with dry brushing? Here we go 👉
🌿 The Lymphie Guide to Dry Brushing
Prepare. Brush. Breathe. Glow.
Dry brushing is one of those wonderfully simple home-care rituals that takes only a few minutes but can leave your skin feeling smooth, refreshed and beautifully awakened.
The secret is not to brush harder or faster.
The secret is to follow a gentle sequence that respects the direction of the lymphatic system.
Instead of immediately starting at the feet and brushing upwards, we begin by preparing the central lymphatic areas first. Many lymphatic therapists refer to this as “opening the pathways.”
This does not mean forcing lymph nodes open. It simply means gently stimulating the areas closest to where lymph eventually returns to the bloodstream before working farther away.
Think of it like preparing the destination before encouraging traffic towards it. 🌿
What Can Dry Brushing Do?
Regular, gentle dry brushing may help to:
✨ Remove loose, dead skin cells
✨ Leave the skin feeling softer and smoother
✨ Encourage superficial blood circulation
✨ Create a refreshing, energising sensation
✨ Support body awareness and self-care
✨ Complement movement, breathing and other lymph-supporting habits
Dry brushing is not about aggressively scrubbing the body. The lymphatic vessels near the skin are delicate, so lighter pressure is always better.
Before You Begin
Choose a clean body brush with soft or medium-soft bristles.
Your brush should feel comfortable against the skin. It should never scratch, sting or cause pain.
Dry brushing is best done:
🌿 On clean, completely dry skin
🌿 Before showering
🌿 With gentle, slow strokes
🌿 For approximately 3 to 5 minutes
🌿 Two or three times per week to begin
Your skin may become lightly pink and warm, but it should never become bright red, scratched or irritated.
Your Step-by-Step Dry-Brushing Routine
Step 1: Begin With Deep Breathing 🫁
Before picking up your brush, take five slow abdominal breaths.
Place one hand over your chest and the other over your abdomen.
Breathe in slowly through your nose and allow your abdomen and lower ribs to expand. Breathe out gently and allow your body to relax.
The lymphatic system does not have one central pump like the heart. Breathing, muscle movement and the natural contractions of lymphatic vessels all help lymph travel through the body.
Your breath is therefore a beautiful place to begin.
Step 2: Prepare the Neck and Collarbone Area
The collarbone region is an important central destination within the lymphatic system. The body’s two major lymphatic ducts eventually return lymph to the bloodstream near the large veins behind this area.
Using your fingertips, make a few very light, slow movements just above the collarbones.
Then gently stroke down the sides of the neck towards the collarbones.
You are not pressing deeply into the tissue. Imagine gently moving the skin rather than massaging the muscles underneath it.
This is what we mean when we say that we are beginning to “open” or prepare the central lymphatic pathways.
Step 3: Prepare the Armpit Areas
The axillary lymph nodes in the armpit region receive lymph from large areas of the arms, chest and upper body.
Using your fingertips or the softest part of your brush, make a few gentle sweeping movements towards each armpit.
There is no need to push deeply into the armpit. Gentle contact is enough.
The lymphatic system responds to rhythm and light skin movement, not force.
Step 4: Brush the Arms 💚
Work on one arm at a time.
Begin close to the destination before moving farther away:
➡️ Brush the upper arm gently towards the shoulder and armpit
➡️ Brush from the elbow towards the upper arm
➡️ Brush from the forearm towards the elbow
➡️ Brush from the wrist towards the forearm
➡️ Finish by brushing from the hand towards the wrist
Use approximately five gentle strokes over each section.
Always keep the movement slow, light and comfortable.
Once the whole arm has been brushed, make a few final sweeping movements from the upper arm towards the armpit.
Repeat on the other arm.
Step 5: Gently Prepare the Groin Areas
The inguinal lymph nodes in the groin receive lymph from much of the lower body.
Before brushing the legs, use your fingertips or very gentle brush strokes over the upper thigh, moving towards the crease where the thigh meets the pelvis.
There is no need to brush intimate areas or press deeply into the groin.
We are simply preparing the area before working farther down the legs.
Step 6: Brush the Legs 🦵
Work on one leg at a time.
Again, begin with the area closest to the groin before moving towards the feet:
➡️ Brush the upper thigh gently towards the groin
➡️ Brush from the knee towards the upper thigh
➡️ Brush from the calf towards the knee
➡️ Brush from the ankle towards the calf
➡️ Finish by brushing from the foot towards the ankle
Use slow, comfortable strokes and be especially gentle around the ankles, shins and knees.
After completing the leg, finish with a few longer strokes from the upper thigh towards the groin.
Repeat on the other leg.
Step 7: Brush the Abdomen Gently
The abdomen contains an extensive network of lymphatic vessels and deeper lymphatic structures.
Using very light pressure, brush the abdominal skin in slow, comfortable circles.
You can follow the natural direction of the colon by moving:
➡️ Up the right side of the abdomen
➡️ Across the upper abdomen
➡️ Down the left side
This pattern follows the general direction in which contents move through the large intestine. Dry brushing does not treat constipation, but the gentle ritual may help you relax and reconnect with your abdominal area.
Never brush forcefully or continue if the abdomen feels painful or uncomfortable.
Step 8: Finish at the Centre
Complete your routine by returning to the collarbone area.
Using your fingertips, make a few final light movements above the collarbones and down the sides of the neck.
Then take another five slow abdominal breaths.
This gives your routine a calm, central beginning and ending.
After Dry Brushing 🚿
Take a lukewarm shower to rinse away loose skin cells.
After showering, gently pat the skin dry and apply a nourishing, fragrance-free moisturiser or body oil if your skin tolerates it.
Drink according to your body’s normal needs and any guidance from your healthcare provider. There is no need to force excessive amounts of water after dry brushing.
Movement also matters. A gentle walk, stretching or a few minutes of relaxed breathing can beautifully complement your routine.
When Should You Avoid Dry Brushing?
Please do not dry brush over:
❌ Broken or bleeding skin
❌ Open wounds or healing incisions
❌ Cellulitis or another active skin infection
❌ Sunburn
❌ Painful, inflamed or unexplained rashes
❌ Active eczema or psoriasis patches
❌ Newly operated areas
❌ Areas that feel hot, unusually swollen or tender
If you have lymphoedema, unexplained swelling, fragile skin, reduced sensation, vascular disease, a history of lymph-node removal, radiation treatment or recent surgery, please ask your medical professional or qualified lymphatic therapist for personalised guidance.
Every person’s lymphatic pathways and medical history are different.
A Gentle Lymphie Reminder 🌿
Dry brushing is not about punishing your body or trying to scrub away “toxins.”
Your body is already working for you every second of the day.
Dry brushing is a small way of slowing down, caring for your skin and supporting healthy daily habits such as movement, breathing, sleep and appropriate hydration.
Be gentle.
Follow the correct sequence.
Listen to your skin.
And remember that when it comes to the superficial lymphatic system, harder is not better. Gentle, rhythmic and consistent care will always be the kinder choice. 💚
Dry brushing is a supportive home-care practice and is not a replacement for manual lymphatic drainage, medical assessment or treatment for lymphoedema and unexplained swelling.

Can you believe we’re in September! The summer has seemed endless this year ~ in a good way ☀️ Officially the hottest on record 🏆🌴🌺 And it looks like we’re set for some continued warm weather heading into Autumn. It’s nice not to feel cold, the heat warming our bones has its benefits. I’ve watched my oldest dog this year laying in the sunny spots since the beginning of Spring, hugging the warmth which I’m sure helps his aging bones 🐕🐾
As we start to move into Autumn I will start to see my hot stones coming back in the diary 💆♀️ A beautiful warming treatment where the heat reaches the deep muscle layers helping to release tension held in our muscles as well as feeling incredibly relaxing which is excellent for our nervous system reducing stress and anxiety. Great for conditions like fibromyalgia, arthritis and back pain too.
With a choice of full body, back & legs or back, neck & shoulders. If you would like to book a treatment contact me on 07772 292178
