The UK government, has classified several medicinal mushrooms, which have been sold here legally in the UK for years, as "Novel Foods," because they weren't consumed significantly in Europe pre-1997.

Other examples of novel foods that have previously been banned include chia seeds and baobab, amongst others that are now readily available here.

A few recent reminders of why I became a herbalist in the first place 🌿

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always struggled with congestion. Whenever I come down with a cold, I end up spending far too much money on over the counter medication that only provides short term relief for weeks on end.

Published last week, PAN UK’s analysis of UK government testing data reveals that a quarter of vegetables and three-quarters of fruit contain multiple pesticides.

The government sets safety limits for just one pesticide at a time, even though there is a growing body of evidence that chemicals can become more harmful when combined. 123 different chemicals were found in the 17 types of fruit and vegetable tested, and this is known as a pesticide cocktail when produce has multiple pesticide residue.

They included 42 pesticides with links to cancer and 21 known to interfere with hormone systems, potentially leading to birth defects, developmental disorders and reproductive problems.
