Why patch testing is so important before your hair appointment

Patch tests might feel like an extra step, but they are one of the most important parts of having your hair coloured safely.

A patch test helps check how your skin may react to the colour products before they are applied to your hair and scalp. Allergic reactions can happen even if you have coloured your hair before, used the same shade for years, or never had a reaction in the past.

Your body can develop sensitivities over time, which is why regular patch testing is essential.

Here’s why it matters:

A reaction to hair colour can be uncomfortable and, in some cases, serious. Patch testing gives us the chance to check for sensitivity before your colour service goes ahead.

2️⃣ It is required for salon safety and insurance
Professional salons have a responsibility to follow safety guidelines. Without an up-to-date patch test, we are not able to carry out your colour appointment.

3️⃣ It gives us both peace of mind
It only takes a few minutes, but it means we can approach your appointment safely and confidently.

So while it may feel like a small inconvenience, patch testing is there to protect you.
