This photo is of me as a child, dressed in drag for a school talent contest. Looking back, I realise how important that moment was. As a q***r person of colour, I grew up without seeing much representation that reflected who I was or who I could become. There weren’t many people in the spotlight who looked like me, loved like me, or expressed themselves the way I wanted to.

For a long time, that can make you feel invisible.

But Pride has always been about visibility, courage, and community. It’s about standing fiercely in who you are, even when the world makes that feel difficult. Life won’t always be easy. There will be moments when you question yourself, when acceptance feels far away, and when love doesn’t always come from the places you expect it to.

In those moments, remember this: be proud of who you are. Keep showing up as yourself. Love yourself fiercely, especially when it’s hardest to do so.

To anyone who feels unseen, misunderstood, or different, just remember your story matters. Your identity is something to celebrate, not hide. Keep going. You will make it.
