You’ve just found your favourite cleansing balm that doesn’t cost a small fortune.

One of the things I really like about the WBCo Prebiotic Cleansing Balm is that it’s not about stripping the skin to feel clean.

It can be a lovely choice for dry, sensitive or reactive skin, but I wouldn’t overlook it if you have oily, combination or blemish-prone skin either.

The prebiotic element is particularly interesting. Inulin helps support the skin’s natural microbiome, which is an important part of maintaining a healthy, balanced skin environment. And when we’re talking about oily or blemish-prone skin, balance is key — over-cleansing and stripping can sometimes leave skin feeling even more unsettled.

Alongside the prebiotic, you’ve got ingredients such as squalane, mango seed butter, rosehip oil and vitamin E to help soften, condition and support the skin.

The balm melts into the skin, lifting away makeup, SPF and the day’s build-up before emulsifying with water and rinsing away.

Every balm comes with its bamboo and cotton cleaning cloth which help gently exfoliate the skin.

We need to chat because nearly everyday I’m asked the same question and it goes something like this.

“I dislike my forehead wrinkles and I’m beginning to notice heavy eyelids so I’m wanting to lift everything back up with line relaxing treatment”.

I understand that we may think line relaxing is the ultimate solution here, however it isn’t. There is a misconception that placing line relaxing treatment in your forehead is going to lift your eyebrows, it won’t.

I can’t begin to tell you how important facial assessment and patient selection is with this treatment. It’s certainly not a one size fits all and some patients are just not suitable at all.

Choosing a practitioner that understands facial anatomy, carries out a thorough facial assessment, and has experience in correct product placement is vital to minimise unwanted side effects and complications.

This really resonates with me.

When I opened my clinic in 2015 I literally posted everything, a box of filler, a snap of a product, every before & after, and everyday a thank you post to all the visitors that had visited that day. I spent hours and hours creating content for my page and I loved it if I’m honest.

Looking back I’m never embarrassed. I built my successful clinic and I still remain grateful to you all today.

So what’s changed?

Social media !!! It’s just so very different to how it was in 2015. These days you can spend hours creating content and get no engagement whatsoever. Hours and hours perfecting sharper visuals, more aesthetically pleasing videos, but you’re lucky if you get 4 likes these days. I never use AI posters (I really dislike these), because I like to create my own personal, authentic content.

It just becomes disheartening, and believe me there is so much more I can be doing with my time. Now ask me if I prefer to be doing something else and the answer is simply not. I love creating content, I love providing education, and I love to engage with my page followers. But at times you feel you really do feel you’re the only one talking.

I’m sure I’m not the only one here.

So if you’re still following my page let’s reconnect, let’s start conversations, and let’s get better at sending a little heart to show you’ve read a post. I’m not just saying this for my page, I’m saying this for every other small business giving it their all because they love what they do 🤎

Bit of bedtime reading and just because I love to share a bit of science 🙋🏽‍♀️

So how Does Microneedling Stimulate Collagen?

You may have heard that microneedling “stimulates collagen” — but what does that actually mean?

Even I still find the science behind it is fascinating.

Microneedling works by creating thousands of tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These microscopic channels are small enough to encourage the skin’s natural healing response without causing the type of injury associated with traditional resurfacing treatments.

And this is where the magic happens. Your skin has an incredible repair system

When the skin detects these controlled micro-injuries, it immediately begins a carefully orchestrated healing process.

This involves the release of a range of signalling molecules and growth factors that communicate with the cells responsible for repairing and strengthening the skin.

These signals help activate cells including fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing important components of the skin’s extracellular matrix, including:

* Collagen
* Elastin
* Glycosaminoglycans, including hyaluronic acid

The result is increased activity within the skin’s repair and remodelling processes.

So, where do growth factors come in?

Growth factors act a little like messengers.

Following controlled microneedling, signalling molecules and growth factors are involved in communicating with skin cells and coordinating the different stages of tissue repair.

Microneedling creates the stimulus → the skin responds → signalling molecules coordinate repair → fibroblasts become active → new collagen and other matrix components are produced → the skin gradually remodels.

And importantly, this isn’t an overnight process.

Collagen takes time

One of the reasons microneedling results can continue to develop after your treatment is because collagen production and remodelling are biological processes that take time.

The initial healing response occurs relatively quickly, but the longer-term changes in collagen organisation and skin structure develop progressively over the following weeks and months.

This is why a course of treatments is often recommended rather than expecting one treatment to completely transform the skin.

Why does the microneedling device matter?

Not all microneedling treatments are necessarily the same.

For collagen stimulation, we’re deliberately trying to create a controlled and predictable biological response. That means the way the treatment is delivered matters.

This is one of the reasons I chose to use SkinPen in clinic.

SkinPen is a medical microneedling device designed to deliver controlled needle pe*******on into the skin. Being able to control treatment depth and deliver the treatment consistently allows us to create a predictable pattern of micro-injury across the treatment area.

That consistency is important.

The aim isn’t to cause as much trauma as possible.

The aim is to create the right stimulus, at the right depth, in a controlled way.

This is very different from thinking that “deeper always means better”.

A professional microneedling treatment should be tailored to the individual, the area being treated and the concern we’re addressing. It’s about controlled stimulation — not damage

It can be tempting to think that the more aggressively we treat the skin, the more collagen we’ll produce. That’s not the goal. Effective microneedling is about controlled stimulation of the skin’s natural healing response.

We want to encourage the biological processes involved in repair and remodelling while managing the amount of inflammation and trauma created.

This is why treatment technique, needle depth, device quality, skin preparation and practitioner expertise all matter.

So what happens to your skin over time?

Think of your treatment as giving your skin a biological instruction rather than simply producing an immediate cosmetic effect.

1. Controlled micro-injury
Tiny channels are created within the skin.

2. The healing response begins
The body recognises the controlled injury and initiates repair processes.

3. Signalling molecules and growth factors are released
These help coordinate communication between cells involved in healing.

4. Fibroblasts become active
These cells play an important role in producing extracellular matrix components such as collagen.

5. Collagen and other matrix components are produced
The skin begins rebuilding and strengthening its supporting structure.

6. Remodelling takes place
Over time, newly produced collagen is reorganised and remodelled.

This gradual process is what can contribute to improvements in skin texture, firmness and overall skin quality.

Why I love microneedling

What makes microneedling so interesting is that we’re not simply putting something into the skin and hoping it improves.

We’re working with the skin’s own biology.

We create a carefully controlled stimulus and allow your body’s natural repair mechanisms to do much of the work. And when that process is delivered using a precise, consistent medical device such as SkinPen, it allows us to make the treatment much more controlled and reproducible.

The goal isn’t to fight your skin’s biology — it’s to use it.

PLINEST EYE vs LUMI EYES — WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

I get asked this almost everyday so let’s discuss. There’s a lot of confusion around polynucleotides and PDRN, so let’s break it down.

Although Plinest Eye and Lumi Eyes are both injectable skin-rejuvenation treatments, they are not the same product and they’re not formulated in exactly the same way.

LUMI EYES uses PDRN — a type of DNA fragment used in regenerative and skin-rejuvenating treatments. It is designed to support hydration, improve the appearance of the delicate under-eye area and help with concerns such as fine lines and dark, tired-looking skin.

PLINESTÂŽ EYE uses polynucleotides (PN) and is specifically formulated for the delicate periocular area.

Polynucleotides work as biostimulatory skin treatments — rather than simply adding volume, the aim is to encourage the skin’s own regenerative processes and improve the overall quality of the tissue.

And this is the important bit…
It’s not about filling the under-eye.
It’s about improving the quality of the skin.

We’re looking at things such as:

✨ Skin hydration
✨ Elasticity
✨ Fine lines
✨ Crepey texture
✨ Skin firmness
✨ Overall skin quality
✨ Supporting collagen and elastin production

So why do I choose Plinest Eye?

Because when I’m treating the under-eye, my focus is skin regeneration and quality — not simply creating a temporary cosmetic effect. And lastly I wouldn’t use anything on my patients I wouldn’t have myself.

I want to work with a treatment that is specifically designed for this delicate area, a treatment I love and trust, and that fits my approach to regenerative aesthetics.

I also believe in keeping my treatment menu intentional. I’m not interested in offering five different products that essentially promise the same thing.

I choose the products I have researched, trained with and feel confident using — and Plinest Eye is the polynucleotide treatment I have chosen for my patients.

That doesn’t mean Lumi Eyes has no place in aesthetics. Different practitioners will have different preferences, protocols and treatment philosophies.

But for my approach, my clients and the results I’m looking to achieve — Plinest is my choice.

And that’s the difference between choosing a treatment because it’s trending…and choosing one because you understand what it is, how it works, is backed by science, and why you’re using it.

Your under-eye deserves a considered treatment — not just a trendy treatment.

My poor tongue, I bit hard 😳🥴

I suppose it’s nobody’s fault for assuming that a career in aesthetics is easy money, or is it?

Believe me it’s not all about the social media glamorous before and after images, the aesthetic clinic shoots, the big conferences etc that are portrayed every single day.

It’s so much more.

When you’re dedicated, passionate, have high standards of care, invest in exceptional training, adhere to rules and regulations it is certainly not easy money.

The part social media often fails to show is that a career in aesthetics is hard at times, can be isolating, and believe me when you care about your patients it can be extremely overwhelming.

For me did I choose the wrong career pathway? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I love what I do and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s worth every minute I dedicate, along with every penny I reinvest into professional development and my clinic. BUT easy money , definitely not.

Gym complete, rant over, uniform on, ready to treat some gorgeous patients of mine because they truly brighten my day. Happy Friday all 🙋🏽‍♀️
