I am very excited to say that I have a wonderful new local stockist in . My , and candles feel very much at home there. Now that spring seems to have arrived, it's a great time explore our part of what will be the longest, managed coastal path in the world. A free resource for all to enjoy.

Last weekend we went to as they opened for the weekend. A rare opportunity to see the garden in winter with the topiary putting on a show and the crocuses in the meadow. Not to mention a fabulous display of hellebores, my favourite flower of winter. It will be open again this weekend from 11 until 4 so if you can, do go and enjoy a Dixter you probably haven't seen before. And maybe buy a plant or 2, like we did!

Wonderful afternoon out and about enjoying , which is one of the many events the town does so well. Free music in the pubs, except for the amazing Mr Wilsons Second Lines which due demand was outside the Standard, rather than in, with music fans up the side streets craning their necks to catch a glimpse. A real crowd pleaser featuring a New Orleans style brass band playing club classics in a very different way. Highly recommended! Plus the always entertaining The United Stoats of America in The Carlisle and a new one for us, Rotten Boroughs in the London Trader. Also absolutely terrific. We are so lucky to have this event happening every year in our town. Everyone was out enjoying the fun and there was a real party atmosphere, which in February is more than impressive!

Visit to Prospect Cottage at Dungeness yesterday, which I visited often in the past, but not recently. It was great to see the cottage and garden being looked after. Signs of spring in the garden from the euphorbia and the santolina looked lovely, having been so neatly pruned before winter.

It's still January, but at nearly 5pm it isn't dark and I am cheered by the sight of spring appearing in my garden. Clematis urophylla winter beauty has chambered over the garden wall from my neighbours, and when there is a little warmth, it has the loveliest fragrance. The white Camellia will soon be in flower in its pot. Deepest maroon hellebores are quietly opening whilst hiding their faces. Little things like these make so much difference! Spring is on its way!
