A LITTLE REMINDER FROM YOUR LOCAL HAIRDRESSER ❤️

Today I had a 13-year-old girl in my salon who really upset me.

She has beautiful natural red hair, but unfortunately she is being bullied at school because of its colour. She came to me hoping that I could help her change it.

Like any responsible hairdresser, I explained that we cannot professionally colour a child’s hair under 16. She had already been told this by other hairdressers, but when I confirmed it, she burst into tears.

And honestly, my heart broke for her because I knew EXACTLY how she was feeling.

When I was at school, my mum wouldn’t let me shave my legs. I was bullied for having hairy legs and, at the time, I remember feeling so embarrassed and desperate to look like everyone else. I remember looking around and wondering why other girls were allowed to do things that I wasn’t.

So although our situations were completely different, I understood that horrible feeling of being the one who doesn’t quite fit in.

What really got me thinking was that she sees other girls at school with highlights and coloured hair. Some parents have chosen to allow their children to have their hair coloured, despite the professional rules and the potential consequences. And I completely understand that every parent makes their own decisions.

But there is another side to this.

For the children whose parents are following the rules, it can be incredibly difficult to understand why they aren’t allowed when their friends are.

And for a child who is already struggling with confidence, bullying, or feeling a little different from their peers, it can add another layer of pressure.

Please don’t misunderstand me — this isn’t a post to judge parents. It’s simply a little reminder that the choices we make for our own children can sometimes have an impact on how other children feel about themselves.

There are very good reasons professional hairdressers have age restrictions around colouring children’s hair, and as much as I would have loved to make this little girl feel happier today, I couldn’t put her or myself at risk by breaking those rules.

So to all the parents who are patiently saying “not yet” — even when your child is telling you that everyone else is doing it — I see you. ❤️

And to all the children who feel different because they don’t look like everyone else…

Please remember: different doesn’t mean less beautiful.

And sometimes the hair you are being bullied for today is the hair someone else would absolutely love to have tomorrow . 🧡

Today I completed the final part of my Master stylist course at the Goldwell Academy in London! ☺️

Yesterday’s final part was advanced curls, learning how to deal with Afro and Caucasian curly hair.

Luckily, for me, the course was made up of salon owners like myself and not only did I learn about curly hair patterns, trends and products, I learnt ALOT about business!

Thankyou you were bloody amazing! And of course to my favourite in house educator at the Goldwell Academy 🤩 😘

I intend to keep growing, keep learning and keep moving forward until the day i retire! (which is getting way too close for my liking!🙈😂)

You are now looking at a Goldwell Master Stylist and Colourist!! 🥰👩🏽‍🎓🥳🎉🙌🏼🍾

✨ 🤎COLOUR CORRECTION TRANSFORMATION 🤎✨

Just take a look at the before photos and count how many different shades and tones are present throughout the hair. You’ll see dark bands, lighter patches, warm orange tones, muddy brown areas, and even green hues from previous colour applications.

What many people don’t realise is that before we can even think about applying the desired target colour, all of those uneven tones have to be carefully identified, corrected, and balanced. Colour correction isn’t simply a case of putting one colour over another and hoping for the best. Every section of the hair can require a completely different approach depending on its colour history and condition.

My client had used black box dye for around 10 years before attempting to remove it herself with a home colour remover. This left the hair patchy and uneven. She then tried bleaching it at home, which exposed strong orange tones, before applying another brown box dye to cover it. Unfortunately, this resulted in green, patchy areas throughout the hair.

This is why I always stress the importance of seeking professional advice before colouring your hair at home. Without an understanding of colour theory, underlying pigments, and the chemical processes taking place within the hair, it is incredibly easy to create a situation that becomes far more complicated, damaging, and costly to fix.

Before I could achieve this final result, I had to carefully balance all of those different shades throughout the hair, creating an even canvas that would allow the target colour to sit beautifully and consistently from root to end. That process takes time, knowledge, patience, and a deep understanding of how colour behaves.

A huge amount of my knowledge comes from investing in my education, including completing the Goldwell Master Colourist programme. The skills and techniques learned through advanced training allow me to tackle challenging corrections safely while protecting the integrity of the hair wherever possible.

Seeing my client’s reaction to the finished result was incredibly rewarding. She was completely overwhelmed by the transformation, and moments like these remind me why continual education and professional expertise are so important.

If you’re unhappy with your hair colour, please don’t keep layering box dyes in the hope that it will eventually work itself out. A professional consultation can save your hair, your time, and often a lot of money in the long run.

Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what’s needed ✂️✨

My lovely client came in today feeling really unhappy after a previous haircut hadn’t gone to plan. After a full consultation, we decided the best option was to reshape and completely restyle her hair — creating something that actually works for her face shape, lifestyle, and confidence 💇‍♀️

The transformation was amazing, but the best part? Seeing her smile again when she looked in the mirror 🥹

She left me the kindest review and I’m so grateful she trusted me to put things right ❤️

If you’ve had a hair experience you’re not happy with, please don’t sit with it — there’s always a solution and I’m always here to help 🤍

Big transformation for the lovely Tania today, whilst she looks like her hair is thick in her before pictures, it is infact very very fine and knots easy! So we decided to give it a good old chop and freshen up her colour with a warm chocolate brown adding in Goldwell pink pure pigments for a more bespoke brown to give her a complete new look! 😍🤎
