SkinPen or pHformula… which is better? 🤔

The answer is… neither.

They're both treatments I love working with, but they work in different ways and are suited to different skin concerns. SkinPen may be a great choice when we're focusing on things like acne scarring, uneven texture, fine lines and collagen stimulation. pHformula gives me lots of options when we're looking at concerns such as pigmentation, breakouts, congestion, redness and sun damaged skin.

But here's the important bit, you don't need to decide which treatment you need before you come and see me. Sometimes one treatment is the obvious choice. Sometimes we may use different treatments at different stages of your skin journey. It all comes back to your skin and what we're actually trying to achieve.

Why do I need a course of laser hair removal? 🧐

This is probably one of the most common questions I get asked, and it all comes down to the hair growth cycle. Our hairs aren't all growing at the same time. They move through different stages, and laser is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase (Anagen) and still connected to the follicle.

The problem is, only a proportion of your hairs will be in this stage at any one time. That's why we space your laser appointments out. Each time you come back, we're aiming to catch another group of hairs as they move into active growth. It's also why one or two laser sessions simply aren't enough for long term hair reduction.

Everyone's journey is slightly different too. Hair cycles vary depending on the area we're treating, and factors such as your individual hair growth can influence how many sessions you may need.

Cryotherapy ❄️

Yes, some suitable age spots and sun spots can be treated with cryotherapy, and this is a lovely example of a result following treatment.

These flat brown areas can become more noticeable over the years, particularly on areas that have had lots of sun exposure such as the face, hands and décolletage. Cryotherapy uses controlled extreme cold to target the area. Following treatment, the spot will usually darken and may form a small crust or scab before gradually lifting away as the skin heals.

Of course, not every brown mark is simply an age spot, and not every pigmented lesion is suitable for cryotherapy. I will always assess the area first, and if there is anything I'm not happy or certain about, I won't treat it and will recommend appropriate medical assessment instead.
