A tight jaw can have many different causes (and the physical side always matters too) but sometimes it's worth becoming curious about why we clench our jaw.
Are we holding back words? Trying to keep the peace? Swallowing frustration? Or trying to stay in control?
Sometimes anger can become one of the emotions we make the least room for. Our body can continue holding on long after an original stressor has passed, holding tension in our soft tissues.
I've been reflecting on what changes when we stop fearing our own anger and start listening instead.
I have written more about my journey and my latest blog, making friends with anger.

For a long time I believed anger was dangerous.
I learned to be understanding, to keep the peace and override myself in relationships where boundaries weren't always accepted.
Looking back, I don't think my depression was purely sadness. For me. It felt as if years of unexpressed anger had become frozen in my body.
Making friends with anger didn't mean becoming an angry person. It meant becoming less afraid of my own fire.
I wrote about this in my latest blog, "making friends with anger". If you've ever struggled with your own anger, or found it easier to suppress it than to feel it, I hope it offers something to reflect on.

I'm always incredibly grateful when clients take the time to share their experience 🌿
Every session is unique. It's an honor to witness the changes that can happen when we create space for our body to be heard.
If you're living with pain, restrictive movement, or simply feel disconnected from your body, you're welcome to explore whether this approach feels right for you.

If the questions in my recent frozen shoulder posts resonated with you, here's a gentle practice to explore them 🌿
If your shoulder feels connected to stress, conflict, or something unresolved in your life, this short EFT tapping practice is an invitation to become curious about what your body may be holding.
You don't need to get the tapping points exactly right, just follow along, choose words that feel true for your experience and notice what happens.
This isn't about replacing medical treatment. It's about recognising that, for some people, healing may also involve listening to the messages our body would like to communicate.
If this resonates, I'd love to hear how you found it - or feel free to share it with someone who might need it.
Frozen shoulder is often approached as something we need to fix. And physical treatment can be an important part of recovery.
But when symptoms persist, repeat, or seem to resist treatment, it may be helpful to wonder whether our body is also be holding an inner conflict that hasn't yet been fully acknowledged.
Rather than rushing to find the right exercise or the next treatment, it can be worth becoming curious.
Not because the pain is "all in our head," but because our bodies are often communicating something that words alone haven't yet expressed.
🌿 Sometimes healing begins with listening.
Have any of these questions resonated with you? 🙏
Frozen shoulder isn’t always just about tension. Sometimes it can reflect an inner push-pull:
wanting two things at once. Moving towards something, while another part pulls back. Like an internal tug of war. ..
Closeness and distance.
Hope and reality.
Change and safety.
When the body holds both at once, our shoulder can become the place that conflict lives.
The body isn’t necessarily breaking down, sometimes it’s holding what hasn’t yet been fully understood.
Can you relate to being caught between two truths?

There is something deeply courageous about turning towards yourself.
To notice: I’m not sleeping. I’m not present. I feel anxious. I feel disconnected…
And instead of numbing, distracting, performing or pushing through…
to stop, to listen and to let someone witness what your body has been carrying.
I never take that lightly. Because coming back into the body is rarely a simple return.
Often there is grief there, or fear, or tension, or old pain…
Parts of us we’ve had to pocket away or leave behind to survive.
And yet, every time someone chooses to turn towards this journey, I feel huge respect: it is brave work… And it is often where healing begins.
And if you're feeling called to come back home into your body, you're welcome here 🩷
Frozen shoulder is often approached through physical treatment alone. And that can absolutely help.
But if our nervous system is holding stress, conflict or protection, our shoulder may keep guarding even after the original cause has passed.
This doesn’t mean the pain is “all in our head.” It means healing sometimes needs to include more than our physical body.
Sometimes alongside treatment, a deeper shift comes through safety, awareness and listening to what our body may still be holding.
This is often where my work begins.
Have you ever felt like you’ve tried everything, but the pain or tightness still won’t shift?

Frozen shoulder can feel random: painful, restrictive, frustrating...
When it lingers or becomes chronic, it’s totally natural to keep wondering:
Why won’t this shift? Am I stuck with this?
Sometimes symptoms begin with something physical. And sometimes our body may be responding to stress. Over time, our body can continue holding long after the original issue has passed. We may have moved on, but the body remembers.
This isn't a sign that our body is broken, it's part of our body's intelligence - because originally it adapted - to protect us.
This doesn’t make the pain of a frozen shoulder any less real, but it can change how we approach it: more listening and more curiosity - and in turn this can be where lasting change begins.
Have you ever had a symptom that felt like it was holding more than just physical pain?

When someone is living with dementia, words can become harder to find. But their body still remembers.
Their nervous system still responds to safety, warmth and connection.
I’ve been reflecting on why touch matters so much in dementia care... not as pampering, but as communication, comfort and presence.
This feels like an important part of the compassionate touch work I’m growing within Rooted Wellbeing.
I wrote more about it here:
