Bald caps!
I absolutely loved this makeup job. Kieran and his friend were off to the Pitbull gig in Ormeau Park, and they wanted a couple of bald caps applied so they could resemble the artist! I'll be honest, I'd never heard of Pitbull until they contacted me last year with this particular request! Now I know it's the done thing to wear one to his shows!
Applying bald caps can be tricky, especially trimming and gluing around the ears! The whole process, from flattening / slicking the hair down, positioning the cap, applying adhesive, coating the cap with latex, colour correcting to hide the dark hair colour beneath the cap and finally, colour matching the cap to the clients skin tone, is quite time-consuming. You can't really rush the process, and without an assistant, takes anywhere between 1.5 - 2 hours to apply.
It had been a few years since my last professional bald cap application, so I was sure to do a practice run a couple of days in advance to refresh my memory.

What an absolute pleasure to be asked to organise the makeup for the amazingly talented cast of 'Cuckoo Land', which opened at the Mac Theatre last week.
'This high voltage piece of gig theatre smashes open the story of the Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition. This is the story of what happens when women crash the party, refuse to behave, and drag a country toward a different future, one cigarette and late night strategy session at a time.'

💫 Brush Hygiene 🖌🧼🫧
Once I bid my clients farewell, and before I even think of sitting down for a cuppa post-makeup, I get to work cleaning my brushes!
It's usually takes around 30 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the bridal party. I have a wee bit of OCD, which is definitely beneficial when it comes to this particular task. I'll stick on some music or a good podcast and get to work.
After the brushes have been lathered up, I'll rinse them off in cold water, set them aside on a clean towel at a tilted angle, so the water runs off the heads and doesn't pool inside potentially weakening the glue.
Once they're dry (I give it 24 hrs), I'll pop them in my GERMIX UV filter drawer for 45 minutes to kill off any remaining bacteria. For large brush quantities, I'll need to do this in batches so as not to overload the drawer. The UV light has to hit all the brush heads, so it's best not to overload the container.
Et voila!
