We know many of you will have seen the news surrounding the allegations at Cornell University, and we know how deeply upsetting and triggering stories like this can be.

As a salon, we want to make it clear that we stand firmly against sexual violence in all forms. No woman, or anyone, should ever have to experience abuse, assault or the lasting physical and emotional trauma that can follow.

We also want to acknowledge the conversations surrounding the disciplinary action reported in this case. We do not believe that asking someone to write an essay should ever be considered an appropriate response to allegations of sexual violence. Accountability matters, and the response to something this serious must reflect the seriousness of the harm alleged.

We also recognise that there are ongoing legal proceedings and that there are different accounts of what happened and how the university responded. Our thoughts are with the woman at the centre of this case, and with anyone who may have been reminded of their own experiences by the coverage.
