June is ✨Acne Awareness Month✨and, contrary to what many grow up believing, it is not just a teenage condition that you will grow out of.

Acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations, overactive sebaceous glands (oil,) and abnormal shedding of dead skin cells (at a rapid rate,) which prevent oxygen from entering the follicle and therefore causing infection, which results in a breakout.

If you have acne prone skin, it’s best to avoid products that are oil based or have a lot of rich ceramides. You’ll want to exfoliate regularly to remove the dead skin, keep it hydrated so that you are not drying it out, because that can lead to your skin producing more oil in an attempt to rehydrate. Oxygen treatments and products are also highly recommended to kill the surface bacteria and keep the skin clear.
