SAKS4EVE INFO. Repost on behalf of our national charity partner, The Eve Appeal… Did you know that abnormal bleeding is a key sign of womb, cervical and va**nal cancer? That's three out of the five gynaecological cancers!
It's a really important symptom to be aware of, but what exactly does 'abnormal bleeding' mean? An easy way to remember is that it's bleeding from your va**na when you as an individual are not expecting to. That can mean different things for different people, depending on factors such as your age, whether you have periods, if you're taking hormonal contraception etc.
Here are the four main types of abnormal bleeding:
• Bleeding in between periods
• Bleeding after s*x
• Bleeding after the menopause
• Bleeding that is much heavier or more painful than what is normal for you
IMPORTANT NOTE - abnormal bleeding doesn't always need to take the form of bright red blood or a big heavy gush. Pale pink or brown coloured discharge is also part of the abnormal bleeding discussion. If it isn't normal for you, then it's time to speak to your doctor. There are many different causes of abnormal bleeding that aren't linked to a gynae cancer, but it's important get help and rule out anything serious.

Repost The Eve Appeal… being able to spot cancer symptoms and when something is wrong starts with knowing your body. So do you know all of the gynae organs inside your pelvis?
Knowing your body helps you understand any symptoms you are having and helps you properly explain them to a doctor - for example, an itch on the v***a is quite different to an itch in the va**na.
To help you remember which is which, our Get Lippy Ambassador Karen Hobbs has a great tip: the v***a is on the outside and the va**na is on the inside, va**na has the word IN in it, va**Na.

SAKS4EVE Public Cervix Announcement on behalf of our charity partner. Repost The Eve Appeal… For the launch of this year's Get Lippy campaign we share the results of our recent survey (Yougov) which found that only 7% of people said they had a good knowledge of gynaecological symptoms before they personally experienced them or a loved one did. And only 5% believed they had good knowledge of the gynaecological cancers (womb, ovarian, cervical, v***al and va**nal).
Nearly 4 in 10 people (38%) surveyed said they wished they had been taught more about the gynaecological symptoms to look out for, either at home or at school, and over a third of them (35%) wished they had been taught more about gynaecological health conditions.
“These results highlight a worrying gap in both knowledge and awareness.” Says Eve CEO, Athena Lamnisos: “When it comes to health issues, we know that fear, stigma and embarrassment are reduced when a subject is normalised and understood – that basic health education needs to start at an early age. That’s why Get Lippy is such an important campaign – we need to help everyone have normal conversations about gynaecological issues. Knowing basic information about signs, symptoms and cancer risk factors such as the HPV virus, is vital to supporting people to keep themselves well.”
